INTRODUCTION

The Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor(MBBR) process was

first invented by Prof. Hallvard Dequard at Norway in
1980.
It is wastewater treatment process which is used for
treating not only the domestic wastewater but also
the industrial wastewater.
The basic principle of MBBR is the use of plastic carriers
on which micro-organisms can grow in biofilm,
where different bacterial groups compete and co-
exist in different niches.

Scope of the work
the scope of the work is to carry out a
laboratory scale study by conducting a
series of experiments using different
MBBR to treat waste water. the carriers
used in these experiments are Mutag
biochip 25TM, BI16, PP22

Project Schedule
Task 1: Research about MBBR process.
Visit MBBR plant sites.
Task 2: Collection of Raw Sample
Testing of different
parameters(COD, BOD, pH) for collected raw samples.
Task 3: Designing working model of MBBR process.
Task 4: Testing of different parameters for collected
treated sample using different types of carriers.

Resources Required

1. A well equipped lab

2. Carriers of different sizes
and shapes
3. Raw water
4. Air Diffuser(Blowers)
5. Tank
6. Sieve Assemblies
7. Mixers

Result
The characteristics of waste
water like BOD, COD, pH are
decreased after MBBR treatment

17-09-2019 Savitribai Phule Pune University 2018 15

Conclusion
The study confirmed that the MBBR is
higly effective on removing of BOD &
COD so treated waste water can be
used for irrigation & Local purpose
