Problem Statement
• Building Skyscrapers higher than earlier with the
most new innovation of the modern times is a
challenging task hence with the growth in the
number of skyscrapers new materials are to be
introduced in the process of weight reduction of the
buildings..

Introduction
A) Perforated metallic materials have a big potential to be used in
construction. Stiffness, strength and elastic/plastic properties of perforated
metallic materials open up good opportunities for their wide range of use in
the building industry. For example they could be used as spacers for wall
and floor constructions, reinforcement materials, fixtures and connectors
for nodes of wooden constructions, etc. (Ozola, 2011; Kaļva, 2011)
B) Because of high strength, light weight, good painting abilities and easy
installation, perforated materials are becoming widely used in the design of
building facades. The main aim of the investigation is to propose different
cellular building structures and constructions made from perforated plates
or tapes.
C) Aluminum honeycomb sheets can be used in in tool machines, as core for
lightweight panels, in airflow ventilation, working surfaces for automatic
machines etc.. Aluminum honeycomb can be used as deflector for laminar
flow ventilation, and as crash absorber for kinetic energy particular, as core
material for sandwich panels.

Material and Methods
A) aluminum honeycomb is used in different sectors such as: public transport
vehicles, shipbuilding, building industry for floors, roofs, doors, partitions, facades,
and for all products which require an optimal stiffness-to-weight-ratio.
Aluminum honeycomb is sold perforated or non perforated (the micro
perforations allow air flow among cells when needed i. e. vacuum or
decompression tools): as unexpanded block, as unexpanded slices, as expanded
sheets and expanded drilled honeycomb
B) The properties of perforated metallic materials as end products directly depend on
the mechanical and technological properties, intended perforation types, shapes,
sizes, steps and other characteristics of used material. The technology of perforation
also affects mechanical properties of the perforated end product. In order to select
the required perforation technology and related equipment we should know the
mechanical properties of the used material - density, tensile strength, hardness, etc.
C) The main materials for producing perforated construction elements are the steel,
aluminium and copper. Sheet materials from aluminium and copper could be used
in construction due to their high corrosion resistance and architectural impression,
but steel due to its relatively high strength. Besides, aluminium alloys are

lightweight and have sufficiently high strength they have good machinability during
perforating and durability.

Concept
A) In Aluminum honeycomb its give a more strength, portable in
shifting condition.

B) Building walls are made of concrete take more space and give
less strength. And also walls are non-portable at time of
shifting.

C) Also takes a less space which increases a carpet area in a

building.

Methodology
A)Properties study of Concrete and Aluminum honeycomb.
B)Calculation of Dimension for walls.
C)Design a Aluminum Honeycomb as per dimensions.
D)Analysis of Concrete and Aluminum Honeycomb and compare
results.
E)Manufacture a best result Aluminum Honeycomb.
F)Testing of plate on UTM.
G)Comparing result.

Software
A) Auto CAD/ Revit: Used for 3D modeling.

B) Ansys: Used for analysis a different type of model for

checking thier strength before the manufacturing.
C) 1- Static Structural Analysis: compression and tensile
test.

17-09-2019 Savitribai Phule Pune University 2018 9

Advantages
A) Aluminum honeycomb walls provide 50% more
strength then concrete walls.
B) It has a less space as compare to concrete walls.
C) More carpet area available in Aluminum honeycomb
walls.
D) Aluminum honeycomb walls has a light weight as
compare to concrete.

Disadvantages

A)Cost of Aluminum honeycomb walls more

then the concrete walls

B)Need educated labour for manufacturing.

Application

A)Building internal walls construction.

B)Safety Wall compound for building.

C)Road Divider construction.

D)Door and windows manufacturing.

References
A) M. Lisicins, V. Mironovs: Perforated metallic materials (tapes, plates,
strips) have a big potential to be used in construction. It was shown
that by profiling and welding it is possible to produce different cellular
structures that match with filler material and decoration.
B) Boiko and V. Lapkovskis: The computer simulation is a feasible way to
predict the deformation of geometrically complex cellular structures,
using perforated bands as well as for form optimization in regard to
the effective use of the material. Experiments (computer and
mechanical testing) prove, that a cellular structure.
