INTRODUCTION
 Concept of six stroke engine was developed in mid 20th
century when pollution due to conventional IC engine
increased.
 The six stroke engine “using WATER” was developed by
Brush crower in 2006 and he patented his product at the
end of 2007.
 Six stroke engine is a internal combustion engine, but it
has additional 2 stroke which make it more efficient.
2
WORKING PRINCIPLE
It consist of following six stroke namely:
1. Suction stroke
2. Compression stroke
3. Power stroke
4. Exhaust stroke
5. Secondary power stroke(Water injection stroke)
6. Secondary exhaust stroke

ENGINE MODIFICTIONS
1. FUEL TANK

 Fuel tank in six stroke engine has to be divided in two

parts.
 One part will contain fuel other part will contain water.
 The water used should be distilled and pure.
4 .
2. CAM SHAFT

 ln six stroke engine the camshaft has been designed to

turn one revolution of every three revolution of the
crankshaft.
 The camshaft of the six stroke engine contain three
cams.
1) Intake cam
2) Exhaust cam
3) Water injector cam
5
3.CAM

 The 360° of the cam has divided into 60° among six
stroke.
 The exhaust cam has two lobes to open the exhaust
valve at fourth stroke and sixth stroke.
6
4.WATER INJECTOR

 Water injection is done by the help of water

injector.
Which is operated by the cam.
This can be done more effectively by the use of
water metering pump.
7
5.CAM FOLLOWER

 Four stroke engine the bottom of cam follower has the

flat shape.
 ln six stroke engine bottom of cam follower must be
changed from flat to spherical shape.
 It helps to reducing the duration of valve opening.

WORKING
1.FIRST STROKE
 During the first sroke the inlet valve opens
and air-fuel mixture is sucked into cylinder
through inlet manifold.
 Piston moves from BDC to TDC.

2.SECOND STROKE

 During second stroke, both inlet valve and

exhaust valve are closed.
 Then the air-fuel mixture is compressed
(the compression ratio is same in six and
four stroke engine).
 Piston moves from TDC to BDC.

3.THIRD STROKE
 During third stroke, where both valves.
remain closed.
 The air-fuel mixture is ignited and burnt.
 Then pressure inside the cylinder increases
rapidily and it pushes the piston down.
 Piston moves BDC to TDC.

4.FOURTH STROKE
 During fourth stroke ,the exhaust valve open to
and to remove the burned gases from the engine
engi cylinder.
 Piston moves from TDC to BDC.

5.FIFTH STROKE
 During fifth stroke, both valves are closed.
 At the end of an exhaust stroke, the cylinder
temperature increases.
 Then water is injected by an injector in the
form of fine droplets.
 The entire water becomes steam when it
contact with the superheated cylinder.
 This super heated steam pushes the piston
downward.
 Piston moves from BDC to TDC. SECONDARY POWER

6.SIXTH STROKE
 In sixth stroke, the exhaust valve is open.
 The water injected in to the cylinder is
removed to the atmosphere through
exhaust valve.
 That is piston moves from BDC to TDC.

 Work obtained from six stroke engine
is the sum both combustion work and
vaporisation work.
 So that the effective pressure will
increase.

Pollution(%) 0.92 0.32
Additional cooling Required Not required
16
ADVANTAGES
 Reduction in fuel consumption by at least 40%.
 Higher over all efficiency.
 Lower engine temperature.
 Noise is less than four stroke.
 Less inertia.
 More extraction of work.
17

DISADVANTAGES
 Early engine starting problem.
 Running problems in cold region.
 Requirement of nuetral water .
 Engine size increases due to additional component.
 Higher manufacturing costs.
18
CONCLUSION

 The six stroke engine modification help to reduction of

pollution.
 The fuel efficiency of the engine increased.
 It enables lower engine temperature.
 Additional cooling system is not required.
