Online Formative Assessments – Semester 1

These are a set of common OBAs prepared by the medical faculty


on the lectures delivered to the semester1 students – both
medical and dental.

Is usually available on the portal for the students to access.

Relevance: This prepares them for OBAs on the medical subjects

1. Presentation 1 5%

• Is an assignment where clinically relevant topics to the head & neck are
laid out to the students to choose from.
• They then have to make a ppt presentation on their chosen topic ,
usually in pairs. The pairs are randomly assigned by the module
coordinator.
• The students are then marked for their presentation based on a rubric.

Tooth carving submission ( incisor, canine, premolar and molar) – 5%

Relevance:
Tooth carving on wax blocks enables the students to perfect the occlusal
recreation skills that will be needed in their future as dentists

3. ICA (OBA, SAQ and OSPE) 1 30%

The ICA at the end of semester 1 is structured exactly as the EOS 2 and
the blueprint lays emphasis mostly on the medical subjects.

Relevance: The medical subjects that are taught as shared lectures with
the medical students are tested at the end of semester 1 before the
start of the medical science module in semester 2. This assists the
students to test their fundamental medical knowledge to build the
medical sciences module on.

The EOS 2 is structured exactly as the ICA and the blueprint lays
emphasis on oral biology and craniofacial anatomy and contributes
to 60% of the total
