Klasifikasi pada rahang
dengan kehilangan sebagian
gigi
Syarat suatu klasifikasi yang dapat diterima :
1. Dapat memberi gambaran tipe kehilangan
sebagian gigi
2. Dapat membedakan tipe dukungan gigi
dan dukungan mukosa pada gigi tiruan
sebagian
3. Sebagai petunjuk tipe desain yang akan
digunakan
4. Dapat diterima secara luas
Klasifikasi
Kennedy diperkenalkan oleh :
Dr. Edward Kennedy pada tahun 1925
Merupakan klasifikasi yang paling umum
digunakan
Penggunaannya mudah
Dapat diterapkan pada hampir semua
bentuk kehilangan gigi sebagian.
Klasifikasi Kennedy terbagi dalam 4 kategori utama:
Kelas I:
Bilateral edentulous areas located posterior to the
remaining natural tooth
Kelas II :
Unilateral edentulous area located posterior to the
natural remaining teeth
Kelas III :
Unilateral edentulous area with natural teeth both
anterior and posterior to it
Kelas IV :
Single, bilateral (crosing the midline) edentulous
area located anterior to the remaining natural
tooth
Modification Spaces
1. Edentolous areas other than those
determine the main classes are
modification spaces and are designated
by the number of the spaces present
2. Class IV has no modification because if
more than one space is present in the
dental arch it would fall into one of the
other clasification
Applegate’s Rules for
classification
1. Classification should follow rather than precede
extraction that might alter the original
classification
2. If the third molar is missing and not to be
replaced, it is not considered in the classification
3. If third molar is present and is to be used as an
abutment , it is considered in the classification
4. If the second molar is missing and is not to be
replaced , is not considered in the classification
5.The most posterior edentulous area always
determines the classification
6. Edentulous areas other than those determining the
classification are reffered to as modification
spaces and are designated by their number
7. The extend of the modification is not considered,
only the number of additional edentulous area
8. There can be no modification areas in Class IV
arches. Any edentulous area lying posterior to the
single bilateral area determines the classification.
