PERFECT TENSE

The perfect tense is the verb tense used to indicate a


completed, or "perfected," action or condition.

Verbs can appear in any one of three perfect tenses:

present perfect, past perfect, and future perfect

PERFECT TENSE
The past perfect tense is used to show that
something happened before another action in
the past. It can also be used to show that
something happened before a specific time in
the past.
THE FORM OF
PAST PERFECT TENSE

 (+) S + Had + V3 + O
Example : I had gone to bed by ten o’clok

 (-) S + Had + not + V3 + O


Example : I had not eaten when she came

 (?) Had + S + V3 + O
Example : Had the cat kileed the parrot
2. PRESENT
PERFECT TENSE
Present perfect tense combines the present tense and
the perfect aspect used to express an event that
happened in the past that has present consequences.
This tense is used to show a link between the present
and past and is commonly used in everyday
conversations, and when writing letters.
THE FORM OF
PRESENT PERFECT TENSE

 (+) S + has/have + V3 + O

Example : You have seen that movie many times

 (-) S + has/have + not + V3 + O

Example: You have not seen that movie many times

 (?) Has/have + S + V3 + O

Example : Have you seen that movie many times ?


Useful of Present Perfect Tense
 To express things you have done in your life
Examples: She has never studied Japanese
 To express number of times you have done something
Examples: I’ve been to Paris three times.
 To describe recently completed actions which are important now
Examples: I have some bad news. I’ve lost my job.
 To express situations that started in the past and are still true
Examples: She’s been the director of that company since 2007.
 To describe unfinished actions or situations
Examples: We have lived here since 2004.
 To express present result
Examples: John has missed the bus, so he’ll be late.
3. FUTURE PERFECT TENSE

The future perfect tense is a verb tense used for


actions that will be completed before some other
point in the future. The future perfect tense is for
talking about an action that will be completed
between now and some point in the future.

FUTURE PERFECT TENSE

 (+) S + will + has/have + V3 + O

Example : They will have enjoyed party

 (-) S + will + has/have + not + V3 + O

Example : She will not have come here

 (?) Will + S + Has/have + V3 + O

Example : Will she have started her journey


Useful of future perfect tense

To talk about an action that will finish before a certain time in
the future

Example: By eight o’clock tomorrow, I will have taken off for Japan.

To talk about an action that will be completed before another


event takes place

Example: She will have learnt Chinese before she moves to China.

To express conviction that something happened in the near past

Example: The guests will have arrived at the hotel by now.

CONVERSATION
Amma and Arfah have not seen to their friend, Ayu and Sandy for a long time. Ayu
and Sandy go to Jakarta to visited their grandma who is sick because she has missed
her grandchildren.

Amma : Hi Ayu, Sandy. We haven’t seen you for ages

Arfah : That’s right. Where have you been?

Ayu : Hi, Amma, Arfah. We have just visited our grandma in Jakarta

Amma : Oh… I see. But wait.. I think you have visited your grandma before.
Haven’t you?

Sandy : Yes, we have visited her three times this month. She was sick so we
went to Jakarta again.
Arfah : How is your grandma now ?
Ayu : She is better. She is in our house now.
Amma : Really ?How long has she been here?
Sandy : She has been here for three days.
Ayu : Actually, she has missed her children and
grandchildren. That’s why she was sick.
Arfah : Oh, sickness because of missing people she loves.
Ayu : : Yes, she is.
Amma : We guess she will be well soon. And send our warm regard to your
grandmother
Sandy : We will send it to her. Thanks.
