EMOTIONS
Emotion is the part of a person's character that consists of
their feelings, as opposed to their thoughts.

Emotion plays a major role in influencing our behaviour.

Life would be dreary without feelings like joy and sorrow,
excitement and disappointment, love and fear, hope and
dismay.

2
Emotion adds colour and spice to life.
Emotional Health Problems
Emotional health problems are caused by changes in brain chemicals.
They are not a character flaw. And they do not mean that you are a bad
or weak person or that you are going crazy. These types of problems can
run in families.
They can be triggered by physical stress (such as an illness or injury) or
by emotional stress (such as the loss of a loved one). They can occur
because you have a long-term (chronic) health problem, such as
diabetes, cancer, or chronic pain. Sometimes they start without a clear
reason.

Anxiety
Everyone worries or feels a little nervous
from time to time. A little anxiety can even
help you focus. But too much anxiety—or
anxiety that causes problems with daily
life—is not normal.

Some people feel too anxious only at certain

times, while other people feel anxious most
of the time. Either kind of anxiety can make 5
you feel helpless, confused, or worried.
How to deal with
anxiety?
Getting better means gaining control over your thoughts. The
following components of treatment are most important:
An approach where people are taught skills to manage their
anxiety, as well as taking responsibility for change and control
over their thoughts, feelings, and behaviour.
Actively identifying and challenging worrying thoughts.
Relaxation training to control physical tension.

6
Depression
Depression is a medical illness that affects how you feel, think, and
act. It is more than just "the blues" or short-term feelings of grief or
low energy. It can have a big impact on your life, your work, your
health, and the people you care about.

Depression is a very common problem for men and women of all

ages. It can be mild or severe. It may come and go, or it may last for a
long time. A person may get depressed only once or many times.
7
Coping with Depression

 Reach out for support from loved ones and who you feel safe
around.
• Do things that make you feel good
 Challenge negative thoughts and try to keep your mind distracted
as much as possible
 Exercising and eating healthy boost up your energy and mood
 If these self-help activities don’t seem to help then seek
professional help

Eating Disorders
Eating Disorders describe illnesses that are characterized
by irregular eating habits and severe distress or concern
about body weight or shape.

A person may develop this disorder as a result of self-

conciousness due to negative body image and low self
esteem.
9
Treatment of Eating Disorder
• Eating disorders can be treated by providing support, love and
acceptance to the person.
• They should made believe that they are good the way they are and
don’t have to be ashamed of their body or try to change it using
such extreme ways.
• Professional therapy, medical care and monitoring are also
available.

“I don't want to be at the mercy of
my emotions. I want to use them, to
enjoy them, and to dominate them.”

― Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Gray
