THE NATURE OF

PERFORMANCE-
BASED
ASSESSMENT
Performance-Based Assessments
process the creative aspect of the
students in bringing out what
they know and what they can do
through different performance
tasks such as exhibits, projects
work samples.

Process Oriented Product Oriented

Performance Based-Assessment
Process Oriented
Assessment has to be done during performance of the task
when the students is doing the steps
Examples:
Presentation
Roleplay
Performance Based-Assessment
Product Oriented
Assessment is done of the basis of the final product
Examples:
Art Exhibition
Poem Writing
Story writing competition
Performance Based-Assessment

RESTRICTED Extended
RESPONSE Response
Performance Based-Assessment
RESTRICTED RESPONSE
Highly structured and specific in terms of scope.
Examples:
Tell the direction of a specific place.
Tell what activities can be done in the place.
Performance Based-Assessment
Extended RESPONSE
It might require students to choose data from variety of sources
like survey observation. Less structure and broader scope
Examples:
Research work
Performance Based-Assessment
How does it measure?
Performance Based-Assessment
To measures student’s ability
Apply the skills and knowledge learned from unit
or units of study
To use the Higher Order Thinking Skills to create
product or complete a process(Chun,2010)
TYPES OF
PERFORMANCE TASKS
1. Solving a problem- critical thinking and
problem solving are important skills that
need to be sharpened and developed by the
learners.
2. Completing an inquiry- an inquiry task is
one in which the students are asked to
collect data in order to their understanding
about a topic or issue.
3. Determining a position- the task requires
students to make decision clarify a position.
4. Demonstration task- this task shows how
the students use knowledge and skills to
complete well-defined complex tasks.
5. Developing exhibits- Exhibits are visual
presentations or displays that need little or
no explanation from the creators.
6. Presentation task- This is a work or task
performed in front of an audience.
7. Capstone performances- these are tasks
that occur at the end of a program study.
