WHAT IS A
STROKE ?

A stroke is a medical condition in which poor blood flow to the brain

results in cell death. Stroke is a disease that affects the arteries
leading to and within the brain. A stroke occurs when a blood vessel
that carries oxygen and nutrients to the brain is either blocked by a
clot or bursts (or ruptures). When that happens, part of the brain
cannot get the blood (and oxygen) it needs, so it and brain cells die.
TYPE OF
STROKE
An Ischemic Stroke occurs when a clot or a mass
clogs a blood vessel, cutting off the blood flow to
brain cells. The underlying condition for this type
of obstruction is the development of fatty
deposits lining the vessel walls. This condition is
called atherosclerosis.

A hemorrhagic stroke occurs when a weakened

blood vessel ruptures. Two types of weakened
blood vessels usually cause hemorrhagic stroke:
aneurysms and arteriovenous malformations
(AVMs).
SYMPTOMS OF
STROKE

Signs of Stroke in Men and Women :

 Sudden numbness or weakness in the face, arm, or leg, especially on one side
of the body
 Sudden confusion, trouble speaking, or difficulty understanding speech
 Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes
 Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance, or lack of coordination
 Sudden severe headache with no known cause

ARMS TIME

FACE
SPEECH

If you think someone may be having a stroke, act F.A.S.T. and do the following simple test:

F—Face: Ask the person to smile. Does one side of the face droop?

A—Arms: Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one arm drift downward?

S—Speech: Ask the person to repeat a simple phrase. Is the speech slurred or strange?

T—Time: If you see any of these signs, call 9-1-1 right away.
TREATMENT OF
STROKE
Berta & Karel Bobath's approach
focuses to control responses from
SUCCESS
damaged postural reflex mechanism.
Emphasis is placed on affected inputs
facilitation and normal movement
patterns (Bobath, 1990).

The concept is to use muscle reflexology exercises.

Terafi this one is based on the theory that states
the CNS or damage to the central nervous system
that has caused regression and reverses back to
old phylogenetic movement patterns. Primitive
reflexes and synergies that occur is considered a
normal exercise in the process of handling stroke,
so that new patterns are formed.
