TEMPER TANTRUMS
• Praise positive behaviour
• Allow them to choose
• Do not try to reason during a temper tantrum
• Ignore the tantrum if no threat of injury
• Distract
• Do not lose your cool
• Think why the child is having a tantrum= hungry, sleepy, frustrated?
• Attention= ignore
• Chore= quiet period then follow through the chore
• Injurious behaviour= time out(last resort)
• After the tantrum= do not give in, reward/praise, show affection

GADGET ADDICTION
• < 18 months- No screen time, only video chatting
• 18-24 months- only with parental supervision
• 2yrs-5 yrs.- maximum 1 hour per day
• Gadget free time/activities in the day
• No gadget zones in the house e.g. Dinner table, bedroom
• Be a good role model
• No screen engagement to soothe a child
• No screen use for feeding the child
• Supervise and research apps used/content watched
• Co-watch, co-play
• Consistent rule for entire family
• Older children- discuss cyber safety and cyber bullying

BEHAVIORAL PROBLEMS
• Do not shout
• Do not use threats
• Do not use violence
• Have a consistent set of rules
• Do not over ride your spouse
• Teach consequences
• Discipline, don’t punish
• Do not instil fear, let them know you are there for them
• Reprimand the behaviour, not the child(bad habit v/s bad child)

COMMON MISTAKES
• Helicopter parenting
• Too many activities/ no free time
• Less importance to emotional development
• Closing communication lines
• Bending rules as per convenience
• Not allowing them to make mistakes
• Not equipping them for failure
• Not respecting your kids
