Contemporary Arts Production
It is describe as hybrid performance works and
artist that travel between the fields of:

• Dance
• Video Art
• Visual Art
• Music Composition
• Performance Arts
THEATER PRODUCTION
THEATER
• It is a live performance to present the
experience of a real or imagined event
before a live audience in a specific place.

• Comes from the Greek word Theatron


“seeing place”
KINDS OF THEATER

Musical Theater

• A work of musical theater is called


musical. It uses acting, music, songs
and often dance.
Comedy Theater
• A Comedy is entertainment consisting of
jokes intended to make an audience
laugh.

• A stage play with a happy ending.

• Include narrative poems with happy


endings and a lighter tone.
Drama Theater
• Drama is the specific mode of fiction
represented in performance.

• Considered as a genre of poetry in


general, the dramatic mode has been
contrasted with the epic and the lyrical
modes.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Director
• Interpret the script
• Cast the production
• Collaborate with the designers
• Plan rehearsals

• Evoke the appropriate mood
• Indicate time of day and location
• Shift emphasis from one stage to another

• Auditioning the singers
• Scheduling music rehearsals
• Helping the cast to learn the music

Playwright
• Create scripts

• A good ear for capturing the way people really
speak
• Working knowledge of the elements of dramatic

• An understanding of theater’s non-verbal means of
expression (sound, movements, setting, costume,
lighting, music, pacing and stage picture)

Marketing/Publicity
• Do promotional plans (brochures/advertise)
• Organize and/or promotional events and
conferences
• Coordinate in handling of reviews and tickets
• Oversee the archiving of all press clipping,
video clips, radio tapes and photo library
• Maintain and update the company’s website

Flashback
• It is a replay of important moments or a
memory that one of the characters has of
the past.

Flash forward
• This is when the group predicts and
creates a possible event that one or more
of the characters might encounter.
Soliloquy
• Expressing a character’s thoughts
about a certain character or past,
present or upcoming events while
talking to himself without
acknowledging the presence of any
other person.
Group Monologue
• A group of characters take on one
single role and speak as chorus or as
one voice in that role.
Sound Scape
• Appropriate sounds and rhythms are
used to create the atmosphere or
mood of the drama.
Split Screen
• Action takes place in two different
locations and or different times, on
stage at the same time and cuts can
be made between the two.
Conscience Alley
• Saying the thoughts or conscience
that they think will be in the head of
the character.

Fly on the wall


• Work individually and explore an
imagined place as though they were a
fly on the wall.
Still Image
• A still and silent image to depict such things
as a significant moment, a mood or symbolic
idea.
• Enables to understand the real meaning of a
moment and is an efficient and safe
technique for getting to the heart of the
matter.
• Develops understanding of eye contact, body
language, narrative and the use of space

PRODUCTION PLANNING
A theater production is a cooperative effort.
There are three stages:

• Pre-production
• Production
• Post production
PRE-PRODUCTION
• Find or write a script
• Find or assign director
• Find venue
• Schedule auditions
• Hire support staff ( select theater people)
• Build your casting
• Set Rehearsal schedule
• Arrange the creation of sets, costumes and props
• Set the performance schedule
• Promote the play
• Ticket should be release
PRODUCTION
• Set up the stage, lights and props
• Check .and set up the materials that will be used
(microphones, sound system, music etc.)
• Dress and make up the actors
• Ensure the play will start on time
• Ensure there is crowd control
• Tickets should be properly monitor
• Audience counting
• Actors that are not supposed to seen on stage
should stay on back/side stage.
• Play should properly documented
POST PRODUCTION
• Remove and clean the venue
• Materials should properly disposed or
stored
• Remitting of ticket
• Feedback box should collect and evaluate
• BTS (behind the scene) photo and video
should be compiled including the whole
stage play.
