The Study and Its Background
Introduction
Pollution is one of the serious problems of
our community, which has continued to
deteriorate over time. According to
(Bradford 2018), Pollution is the process of
making land, water, air or other parts of
the environment dirty and not safe or
suitable to use. Thus, it affects People’s
health negatively.
 Philippines is one of the most polluted country in
the world. One of the major cause of pollution in
the country is garbage. Thus, in the year 2001,
Philippine Government implemented the Republic
Act 9003 or the “Ecological Solid Waste
Management Act of 2000”. The Act provides the legal
framework for the systematic, comprehensive and
ecological solid Waste management program of the
Philippines, which shall ensure protection of public
health and the environment.
The most effective way to manage waste is
through waste segregation. Waste
segregation refers to the separation of wet
waste and dry waste, the purpose is to
recycle dry waste easily and to use
wet waste as compost.
In the Philippines there are cities that are strictly
implementing waste segregation in their
community and there are also Filipinos who
disregards it. Thus, the researcher come up with
an idea to identify the factors which affect
people’s behaviour towards waste segregation.
Statement of the Problem
The study seeks to answer the following:
1. What are the profiles of the respondents in
terms of:
a. Name(optional)
b. Sex
c. Age
2.What are the factors affecting the
students’ behaviour towards waste
segregation in Raniag High School as
to:
a. Personal factors
b. Family-related factors
c. School-related factors
3.What are the coping mechanism to
cope with the factors that affects
students’ behaviours towards waste
segregation as to:
a. Personal Factors
b. Family-related Factors
c. School-related Factors
Conceptual Framework
 The paradigm of the study in figure 1 presented
the Input-Process-Output Model; the input
includes the Statement of the Problem. It
contains the respondents’ profile, the factors
affecting the students’ behaviour towards waste
segregation in Raniag High School and the
coping mechanisms to the factors that affects
the students’ behaviour towards waste
segregation as to personal factors, family related
factors and school related factors.
 Secondly, the process that emphasizes a survey
through structured research questionnaires.
 Thirdly,
is the expected outcome of the study. It
contains the finding that presents the factors affecting
the students’ behaviour towards waste segregation in
Raniag High School as to personal factors, family-
related factors, and school related factors.
 And lastly, the feedback that will be derived from the
study completes the picture on analysing the Factors
affecting the students’ behaviour towards waste
segregation.
Objectives

 tofind out the factors affecting the students’

behaviour towards waste segregation in Raniag
high school and also the coping mechanisms to
cope with factors that affects the students’
behaviour towards waste segregation as to
Personal factors, family-related factors and
School- related factors.
Scope and Delimitation
 Thestudy will focus and will be limited only on the
factors affecting the students’ behaviour towards waste
segregation in Raniag High School as to personal
factors, family-related factors and school-related
factors and also, the coping mechanisms to cope with
these factors. This will be validated based on the views
and images that will be categorized based on the
survey instruments. The respondents of the study will be
330 students from Raniag High School coming from
both the junior and senior high school.
Significance of the Study

The study will be of great benefit to the following:

Students
Teachers
School
Government
Community
Environment
Research Methodology
Research Design

The research design that will be used in

the study is descriptive research design
in quantitative type of research.
Locale of the Study

The study will be conducted at Raniag

High School, Raniag, Ramon Isabela.
Respondents of the Study
 There are 6 year levels in the study in Raniag High
School namely: Grade 7, Grade 8, Grade 9,
Grade 10, Grade 11 and Grade 12. Having the
total population of 1,860 the researchers used
Slovin’s formula (n = N / (1+Ne2) to come up with
the sample population size of 330 students with 5%
as the margin of error. Also, the researchers have
used Stratified Random Sampling to proportionally
distribute the respondents in different Strata.
Data Gathering Instruments

The data gathering instrument that will

be used in the study is survey through
structured research questionnaires.
Data Gathering Procedures
1. The researchers will seek approval from the Principal
through their Practical Research II teacher.
2. the researchers will seek their principal’s approval for
the researchers to meet the learners
3. the researchers will float questionnaires during the
free time of the respondents to ensure that they have
enough time to answer.
4. After collecting the questionnaires, the researchers
will tally, tabulate compute, analyse and interpret the
data.
Statistical Treatment of Data

The data that will be gathered in this study

through the use of questionnaires will be
collected, tabulated, and interpreted in
order to arrive at significant findings
addressing the problem formulated by the
researcher.
In order to facilitate this, the statistical tools
were used:
1. Slovin’s formula.
Where:

n= sample population

N= total number of population

e= margin of error
2. Proportionate Stratified Random
Sampling.

Where:
nh= Sample size for hth stratum
Nh= Population size for hth stratum
N= Size of entire population
n= Size of entire sample
3. Simple frequency count and percentage
distribution.
Where:

P= percentage

f= frequency

n= sample population
4. Scale and scoring
