LATIN AMERICA:

THE NORTH AND

SOUTH DIVIDE
GLOBAL DIVIDE
(aryaannn)
The origin of dividing countries into the north
and south divide arose during the cold war
2018
of the
mid 20th century. During this time countries
were primarily categorized according to their
alignment between Russian east and American
west.

Mexico and South America are one of
the example of north-south divide.

The Mexico is part of south divide

which means that this country is poorer
than America (part of Noth Divide).
In the case of Mexico, they
plummeted in December and
January over doubts regarding the
impact that new US policies will
have, along with depreciation of the
exchange rate and the
concomitant risk of higher
inflation. By contrast, in South
America, confidence has begun to
recover, particularly for households,
although for the moment, levels of
pessimism remain the same.
Though most Mexicans rarely say so in public, one
of this nation's greatest strengths is its privileged
trade status with the United States. The United
States economy plays a large role in driving the
job market in Mexico, and the dream of
advancement comes alive with the hum of the
factory floor.
So when President Vicente Fox visited South
America this month to increase trade ties with
Brazil and Argentina, some Mexicans disapproved,
fearing that their country would become more
likely to contract the economic illness afflicting its
southern neighbors.
In matters of culture,
Mexico is Latin American.
But in matters of money,
it is North American.
