• The Roads Act 1920 was an Act of the Parliament of the United
Kingdom which established the Road Fund, and introduced
tax discs.

• The Act repealed the Locomotive Act of 1865, the


Locomotives on Highways Act, 1896 and the Motor Car Act,
1903 and introduced many new regulations which
controversially included the removal of all speed limits on UK
roads for motor cars.
• The Road Traffic Act 1930 was strengthened by the Third
Parties (Rights against Insurers) Act 1930.
“ROAD TRAFFIC ACT, 1934”

• The Act was made in a year in which there had been a record
numbers of road casualties.
• Reintroduced a speed limit for cars, of 30mph in built-up areas,
reversing the removal of speed limits only 4 years earlier by the
Road Traffic Act 1930.
• The UK driving test was made compulsory for all new drivers
from 1 June 1935.

BASIC TRAFFIC RULES
• Drivers must drive their vehicles on the left side of
the road
• Drivers shall use the stipulated hand signals or
vehicle indicators to indicate slowing down,
stopping, turning or overtaking
• Driver must ensure that all vehicle registration
marks be displayed clearly and not be hidden
by an load or goods stored in the vehicle
• Drivers must follow lane discipline. If turning to
the left, the vehicle must be in the extreme left
lane of the road and vice versa
• Overtaking of another vehicle moving in the
same direction must only be done from the right
side of that vehicle
• Drivers must give free passage to fire service
vehicles or ambulances
