Problem Statement

Speed and torque control of induction

motor for both high and low speeds.

Department of Electrical Engineering C.I.I.T ATD 3

Induction motor
 Stator
 Rotor
 Flux linkage
 EMF induced in rotor
 Output is torque

4
Torque and speed control
 Mechanical robots in industries.
 Pumps and compressor system.
 Electric vehicles.
 Wind electric systems
 Elevators and conveyor belts

5
Methods for IM speed control
 Scalar control
(only speed controlled)
 Vector control
(both speed and torque controlled)

6
Vector Control
 Control of speed and torque

 Emulate the performance of DC

motor and BLDC motor servo drives

 High performance under both transient

and steady state

7
How vector control is accomplished

 dq dynamic model of IM

 Controller design

 Implementation of vector control

8
Dynamic Analysis Of Induction
Machine
 Use of space vector

 Conversion of 3 phase to 2 phase

system

 Derivation of equations

9
Advantages of dq analysis
 No mutual flux between any of d and q
windings.
 Independent torque and speed are
control.

dq Model Simulation

 An induction machine initially operating under its

rated condition
 In steady state, supplying its rated torque.
 The load torque changes to half
 Examine the change in speed, torque and stator and
rotor currents.

Conclusion
 Stator And Rotor phase windings represented by dq
windings produce same mmf.
 dq windings have zero magnetic coupling[orthogonal
orientation].
 Results in simpler equations.
 Independent control of torque and flux.
