 Afghanistan is situated in the north of N.W.F.P
 Economic location among south and central Asia,
India, China, Russia the USA and others.
 Afghanistan is a mountainous country rich with
roaring rivers, deep valleys, vast deserts, karazes.
 Due to all these qualities has taken the tittle of Heart
of Asia

 Natural gas, Petroleum, coal, cupper, chromite, talk,
barites, Sulpher, led, zinc, iron ore, salt, precious and
semi-precious stones and arable land.
 Enriched with uranium
 Pashtun, Tajik, Hazara, Uzbek, other (includes
smaller numbers of Baloch, Turkmen, Nuristani,
Pamiri, Arab, Gujar, Brahui, Qizilbash, Aimaq, Pashai

Role of Afghanistan in Pak-Indo wars


 War of 1947:

1965 war:
Pakistan which enabled Islamabad to fully
concentrate on its war with India and worry
less about the security of its western border.
1971 war:
 Afghanistan maintained strict neutrality during
the 1971 war between India and Pakistan and
refrained from taking advantage of Pakistan’s
preoccupation in war
Pak-Afghan War

 The Afghan war lasted for ten years.
 It started from December 27th, 1979, and ended on
February 15th, 1989
 The war was between Soviet supported Afghan
communist government, and the anti-communist
guerilla fighters called Mujahedeen.
 The communist side: The soviet union, and the Afghan
government.
 The anti communist side: The mujahedeen which were
supported by several anti communists countries, such as
US, UK, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia. US provided 700
million dollars to equip and support the Mujahedeen
against USSR .

The horrific acts of September 11, 2001
changed the world and Pakistan Found itself
between the devil and the deep sea.
 It marks a new phase of the Pakistan foreign
policy in general and Pakistan’s Afghanistan
policy in particular.

 The Indian factor focuses Pakistan’s perceptions of

independence until 1992 , India supported whatever
government was in power in Kabul.

clash along the Durand line and along the Pak-Indo
border.
