 An individual is a product of social interaction that


incorporate ways that adult and others talk and interpret the
world in their own ways and thinking. Through interaction and
communication, an individual transmit their society’s
traditions, beliefs, values, norms and skills to the next
generation, thus influences the course of future development.

ASPIRE TO BE
 Human are sociable group-based culture where a significant
position of our “self and it’s behavior is socially directed and
influenced.

 The interpersonal self or the social self is that part of the


individuals that engages in face to face relation with others that is
made up of the social roles that would include ethnicity, gender, age,
pace of residence or any other social categorization that helps
characterized a person’s identity.
 The social self is a product of our earliest childhood
interaction. If one have no interaction specially with
significant people, we would not have language, social norms,
culture or a perspective of the world around us.

 Each individual is a product of social interaction (Vygotsky


theory). They got to incorporate ways that adults and others
talk and interpret the world into their own ways of thinking.
And through interaction adults transmit their society’s culture,
values and skills to the next generation thus, influencing the
course of future development of their social self.
SOCIAL INFLUENCE

 Is the effort of others that induces an effect on


the attitudes and behavior of people. This describes
the manner by which individual impact the views,
moods and actions of other people are affected by
another person or group.
 Social influence stems from social roles and social norms. We are
expected to perform according to certain social roles that people do.
The part that an individual play being a member of a social group
(McLeod 2008) is what we called Social roles while those unwritten
rules about how people behave are called Social norms that define
and prescribe the specific behaviors that are acceptable to a particular
place or group.

 In today’s modern world the young generation have different kinds


of impression that the young generation have come to truly
appreciate, adapt and eventually got hooked into.
EMERGING CULTURE OF
TODAY’S GENERATION

Korean Wave: (Korean music, fashion,


food, drama)
The Korean Wave in a assimilated among young Filipinos in their fashion
K-Pop is a musical genre that originated in South
Korea characterized by a wide variety of audiovisual
elements. Their mode of dressing, hairstyle
eventually their lifestyle like eating the hot Samyang
noodles, and other Korean dishes and to top it all is
getting addicted to Korean tele-dramas where some
are being adopted and applied in their everyday lives.
Cosplay: Portraying comic book characters in a real life
Cosplay – Portraying comic book characters in a

It can mean the actual costume as well as the


action of the person wearing it. But ironically many
cosplayer do not believe that they are the characters
that they are portraying or “cosplaying” and are
typically made because of some reasons:
1. To recreate a 2 dimensional art form into 3-D.

2. To challenge one’s self to create a cosplay.

3. To show appreciation and/or interest in a certain


anime/manga, or videogame.

4. To take pride in a cosplay that looks well done.

5. They are much more interesting to wear for each cosplay


is one of a kind unique considering the wearer most likely
made it him/herself.

6. It has becomes hobby.


REASONS WHY COSPLAYS ARE WORN:

1. To take pride in one’s own creation.

2. To wear something out of the ordinary.

3. To show support and/or interest in an


anime/manga/videogame.

4. Self-expression. Often the character that is chosen to be


cosplayed mirrors the actual person wearing the play. The
person’s personality is like the character. Not the other way
around ( the person wants to be the character).
ACTION FIGURE ENTHUSIAST
 There are individual who are fond of collecting things,
stamps, old coins, matches, telephone cards even dried leaves
or flowers. These traits have been passed unto from generation
to generations, unfortunately today’s collection are a bit
expensive than before. Today collections varries from
collecting from collecting Barbie dolls, original DVD of
favorite movies or songs, paintings to Remote Control (RC)
cars to miniature ones and of course the collections of famous
marvel heroes and justice league figures.

Culture can be defined in several ways:


• It is simply gives people’s lives meaning.

• It is a source of one’s identity, of confidence and of self-


esteem.

• It allows others to understand the world and define their


places within it.
One’s culture is a summation of the needs
of people, a description of their past and present
condition, an expression of their values, thoughts,
and emotion and their deception of their historical
struggles to liberate themselves from the different
races.

Filipinos has one of the best traits in the


world. It is a combination of both cultures from the
East and West. Through the country have been
colonized by several countries but the core values
from their ancestors remained intact and are still
being applied even to the present times.

BELIEF SYSTEM: FILIPINOS ARE RILIGOUS

They believe so much in supernatural power


and the taught then to trust prayers rather the hard
work in realizations of their dreams. Success is
consider a blessing from above a product of good
luck and faith. It also taught him to value traits like
perseverance patience and endurance.
VALUE SYSTEM

Cultural values are shared assumptions of


what is right, good or important. Values actually
guide man’s behavior and action as he relates
himself in moral situations. Filipino values can be
seen from the aspects of personal and social
relationships. It can be seen in the language/dialect
used, music and dances, food, religion, and different
ways of celebrating important cultural events.

The Filipino value more their honor and


status more than anything else. Most of them value
their honor (Karangalan) rather than wealth. Even
in making decision the consensus of the family
members as the feelings of these who are to be
affected.
Pagmamano: An expression of the Filipino Value of honoring their elders.
Emphasis is given to Social
realtionships which can be seen through the
hospitality they give their visitors and friends
and relatives and engaged themselves in
mutual cooperation which is best seen and
expressed through “Bayanihan.”
Bayanihan: The Filipinos way of smooth interpersonal relationship.
Utang na loob
UTANG NA LOOB

A sort of technique of reciprocity of debt


of gratitude to others within the family circle or
primary group which are sometimes unlimited in
nature, emotional rather than financial.

It is the inability to repay “utang na loob”


that might result in the individual being labeled as
“walang utang na loob” or “walang hiya.”
Pakikisama: The Filipino way of smooth interpersonal relationship.
PAKIKISAMA
The value of belongingness and
loyalty with sensitivity to the feeling of
others on the principle of “give and take.” It
is a folk concept of good public relations
and avoidance of conflict with majority of
the group.
HIYA
Generally dependent on what others
will think, say or do. Because of “hiya” a
Filipino cannot say “no” even if it is against
his will to do what is being requested.
Hiya: A form of social control while declining a request may be
discouraged.
Some Regional Traits

• Ilocanos – most adventurous, hardworking, and


frugal of Filipinos.

• Bicolanos – religious, mild tempered and musically


inclined; fond of spicy food with hot pepper and
coconut.

• Bisayans – extravagant, carefree and jolly; they love


clothes, jewelry and parties; lavish spender and prefer
to have good times to hard work
