The definition of a poem is a
collection of words that express
an emotion or idea, sometimes
with a specific rhythm.
SOCIAL FUNCTION

The social function of a poem


is to convey an idea or
emotion in beautiful
language.
STRUCTURE POEM
• Line length
Line length shows the reader how it should be read. Short lines are usually read
faster, with more emotion. Longer lines slow down the pace of a poem.
• Stanzas
The groups of lines, are like paragraph in prose. They contain a central idea.
Having multiple stanzas gives readers a chance to focus on multiple ideas
• Consistency
Structure also refers to the consistency used throughout the poem. An author might
start each line with a certain part of speech, or a repeated line or phrase is used at
the same spot in each stanza.
LANGUAGE FEATURE

• A figure of speech in which a word or phrase is

• Poem is a literary work shaped phrase whose language looks beautiful and
full of meaning.
INTRINSIC ELEMENTS OF A POEM

1. Themes (sense) is the main idea of the poem, either express or implied.
2. Typography is also called carving forms of poetry. Typography is the order of the array,
temple, sentences, phrases, words and sounds to produce a physical form that is capable of
supporting content, taste and atmosphere.
3. Mandate (intention) or the message is something to convey the poet through his work.
4. Tone (tone), the attitude of the poet to the reader, such as humility, patronizing, dictate,
persuasive, and others.
5. Taste or touch feeling emotional is the writing in the form of satisfaction, surprise, sadness,
anger or another.
EXTRINSIC ELEMENTS POEM

1. Biography is a background element or author biography.


2. Value element in the story, such as economic, political, social, customs,
culture, and others.
3. Social element is the social situation when the poem was made.
