Gas Station Safety
Action Explanation
TURN OFF ENGINE During the refuelling procedure the fumes or vapour from
the fuel being pumped can accumulate on the ground level near your car.
These scenarios or potential causes of accidental fires at the fuel pumps can
be avoided by switching off the vehicle engines and accessory power sources
NO SMOKING NO QUESTION, It is Prohibited

DON’T USE MOBILE PHONE Mobile Phone besides transmit high frequencies, also emits sparks (though
small, the size of 1 micron). This spark arises around the coil antenna, due to
the high potential difference in voltage.
Sparks from mobile phone actually not enough to ignite gasoline vapors in the
open air. But, it's another story if the air is already saturated with the gasoline
vapors.
If it is saturated enough, the gasoline vapor will be burned by a small spark.
The effect is explosion.
DISCHARGE STATIC ELECTRICITY “A static electric charge can develop on your body as you slide across the seat,
and when you reach for the pump, a spark can ignite [petrol] vapour”
Discharge any static before you reach for the pump nozzle. You can do this by
touching the metal parts of your vehicle.
BEWARE OF THEFT Theft at service stations does happen. It’s easy for a thief to quickly enter your
unlocked car and grab items like a handbag, mobile phone or other valuables
items. If necessary lock your car.
