Introduction:
India is the country that occupies the greater part of South
Asia.

It is a constitutional republic consisting of 29 states.


Delhi is the national capital territory, which includes New
Delhi, India’s capital.

With roughly one-sixth of the world’s total population, India


is the second most-populous country, after China.
Geography :
Relief:
India is the seventh largest country in the world with a total area
of 3,287,263 square kilometres.

It lies on the Indian Plate, which is the northern portion of the


Indo-Australian Plate.
The peninsula of India is made up of an old plateau, Deccan
Plateau

Also in India are the Himalayan Mountains (over 8,000 meters).


Climate:
India provides the world’s most-pronounced example of a monsoon climate.
The wet and dry seasons of the Indian monsoon system produce three general
climatic periods:
• hot wet weather
• cool dry weather
• hot dry weather
Vegetation:
India is bestowed with a wide range of flora and fauna.They grow naturally by
following the climatic variables.
The cultivated crops and fruits, orchards form part of vegetation, but not
natural vegetation.

Touristic spots:
Taj Mahal, Agra
The Taj Mahal is also the world's most famous
testimony to the power of love.

The Holy City of Varanasi
A major pilgrimage center for Hindus, the holy
city of Varanasi has long been associated
with the mighty Ganges River, one of the
faith's most important religious symbols.
The Red Fort, New Delhi
The magnificent crescent-shaped Red Fort
in New Delhi, named after the stunning red
sandstone used in its construction, covers a
vast area of more than two square
kilometers.

Varkala Beach
Varkala Beach is popular with travelers who
just want to take a break from sightseeing
for a while. Its sandy beaches along
impressive cliffs are perfect for
beachcombing, sunbathing and swimming
Discovery channel named it one of the top 10
seasonal beaches in the world.
Culture
India's culture is among the world's oldest.
Civilization in India began about 4,500 years ago. Many sources describe it as
"Sa Prathama Sanskrati Vishvavara" — the first and the supreme culture in
the world.
Language:
There is no official language in India, though Hindi is the official language of
the government.
The Constitution of India officially recognizes 23 official languages.
Bengali, Telugu, Marathi, Tamil and Urdu are some other languages spoken in
the country.
Religion:
India is identified as the birthplace of Hinduism and Buddhism, the third and
fourth largest religions. About 84 percent of the population identifies as
Hindu.
Food:
Wheat, Basmati rice and pulses with chana (Bengal gram) are important
staples of the Indian diet.
The food is rich with curries and spices, including ginger, coriander,dried hot
peppers, and cinnamon, among others.
Between 20 percent and 40 percent of India's population is vegetarian.
Much of Indian food is eaten with fingers or bread used as utensils.
Architecture and art:

The most well-known example of Indian architecture is


the Taj Mahal.
It also has many ancient temples.

India is well known for its film industry, which is often


referred to as Bollywood. Kurta

The major classical dance traditions draw on themes


from mythology and literature and have rigid
presentation rules.
Clothing:
Indian clothing is closely identified with the colorful silk
saris worn by many of the country's women.
A traditional piece of clothing for men is the dhoti, an
unstitched piece of cloth that is tied around the dhoti
waist and legs.
Men also wear a kurta, a loose shirt that is worn about
knee-length.
For special occasions, men wear a sherwani or achkan,
which is a long coat that with a collar having no
lapel. It is buttoned up to the collar and down to the

History
India is a land of ancient civilization. Its history begins with
the birth of the Indus Valley Civilization and the coming of the
Aryans.

In the fifth century, large parts of India were united under


Ashoka.
He also converted to Buddhism, and it is in his reign that
Buddhism spread to other parts of Asia. Ashoka
Islam first came to India in the eighth century, and by the
11th century had firmly established itself in India as a political
force.

The European presence in India dates to the seventeenth


century
The Rebellion of 1857-58, which sought to restore Indian
supremacy, was crushed; and with the subsequent crowning Revolt of 1857
of Victoria as Empress of India, the incorporation of India into
the empire was complete.

Freddie Mercury and Ben Kingsley are
both of Indian descent. Freddie
Mercury, the legendary singer of the
rock band 'Queen' was born in Paris
with the name Farrokh Bulsara while
the famous Oscar winning Hollywood
star Ben Kingsley was born with the
name „Krishna Pandit Bhanji”.

In a famous conversation, Rakesh


Sharm was asked by the then Prime
Minister Indira Gandhi how India looked
from the space and he replied, Saare
Jahan Se Achcha, (better than the whole
world). Rakesh Sharma was the first
Indian to travel in space.
