 The kinds of dancing may be varied in

form. It may be performed for religiuos,


magical, commemorative, ceremonial,
recreational, or entertainment purposes.
Some of these types which are important
to our culture include the following:
 Is a dance which is native to specific race
or ethnic group. Folk dance – associated
with national and cultural groups. Ex.
Square dance, the Irish and Polka,
Filipino folk dances
 TINIKLING is our national dance. All attired in
native apparel, the balintawak and barong
tagalog, imitating the movements of tikling
birds.
- is a dance that suggest the exotic aroma of
scented kerchiefs with which the ladies tease the
gentlement.
 "Banga" literally mean pots. The Banga or pot
dance is a contemporary performance of
Kalinga of the Mountain Province in the
Philippines. These clay pots are balanced on
the head of Igorot women.
 Bilaan is a dance that depicts the lively, simple
movements of birds in flight and as they preen
themselves, beautifully portrayed by tribal
maidens.
 Itik-itik is a mimetic folk dance in The
Philippines. It originated in the province of
Surigao in Mindanao. In Itik-itik (from the
Tagalog word for "duck"), the dance steps
imitate the movements of ducks among rice
paddies and swamplands, such as wading,
flying, and short, choppy steps.
 Jota Caviteña shows strong Spanish influence.
Jota means jump in latin. It describe the lively,
bouncy movements of the dance.
 Pandanggo sa Sambalilo is a flirtatious dance
from Bulacan. It shows a barrio swain and his
lady love play and dance with a native hat.
 Sayaw Sa Banko or Sayaw ed Tapew na
Bangko (dance on top of a bench) a couple
“showing off” their skills while dancing on top
of a long narrow bench.
 Singkil (or Sayaw sa Kasingkil) is a famous
dance of the Maranao people of Lake Lanao,
Singkil is a popular dance performed during
celebrations and other festive entertainment.
 THE IFUGAO DANCE depicts a Mountain
tribe of the Philippines dancing to the sound of
the “gangsa‟ (brass gong).
 "Ballroom dance" refers to
traditional partnered dance forms that are done
by a couple, often in the embrace of closed
dance position ("ballroom dance
position"). These include waltz, swing, tango,
boogie and cha-cha.

 Waltz - a dance in triple time performed by a


couple, who as a pair turn rhythmically around
and around as they progress around the dance
floor.
 Foxtrot - a type of formal ballroom dance that
combines short, quick steps with longer ones in
various patterns.

 Swing - swing dance is a lively style of social


dancing in which a dancer often lifts, spins and
flips his or her partner.

 Tango - tango is a sensual ballroom dance that


originated in Buenos Aires, Argentina in the early
twentieth century. The tango dance is usually
performed by a man and a woman, expressing an
element of romance in their synchronized
movements.
 Boogie - boogie dance, or boogie-woogie is a
form of swing dancing that was originally
known as “Barrelhouse” dancing. It is called
boogie-woogie in Europe, but this dance is
more commonly known as East Coast swing in
the United States.

 Cha–Cha - Cha Cha is a lively dance with


African influences that developed in Cuba after
World War II. Since its inception in the 1950s,
Cha-Cha-Cha dance remains one of the most
famous of Latin dances performed in social
halls and competitions across the world.
 this type of dance is so called because it is
performed for the entertainment of spectators.
Theatrical dancing includes the ballet, modern
dance, musical comedy dances, and tap dancing.

 Ballet – formalized type of dance whichhas its


origin in the royal courts of the MiddleAges. It is
often shown in the Cultural Center ofthe
Philippines. The term „ballet‟ refers to a seriesof
solo and concerted dances in which poses andsteps
are combined with light flowing figures.
 Modern Dance – characterized as natural and
free. Also called expressional dance.
