What is migration?
Migration is the permanent
movement of persons from one
geographical location or region
or another.
These Jamaican coins have two
sides, heads and tails. Together
they make up the whole coin. So
is it with MIGRATION. There are
two sides, EMIGRATION and
IMMIGRATION. Together they
make up migration.

residence (their homes or country) and
live to another for a number of reasons.
To emigrate is to leave one country or region to settle in
another. “Emigrate” implies a permanent move and only

What is immigration?
• This is an act of entering a foreign country
(To immigrate is to enter and settle in a foreign country,
leaving a past home. “Immigrate” implies a permanent
move and applies only to people. )

States in the 1920s.
Welcome to USA
When some one leaves his country to go to another
we call that overseas or international migration.
When people move from place to place within a
country we call that as
internal migration
When people leave rural areas (country-sides) to go to
urban areas (towns and cities), we call that
rural to urban migration.
