Project
• Cable-stayed bridge intended to cross over electrified
railway lines.

• Challenge: Starting with activity D and until the completion

of activity S, operation of one of the railway lines will be
impaired

• Task: The impairment will last 17 weeks and we are

requested to find ways to reduce that time
• Project On Hand: Cable stayed bridge intended to cross over electrified railway
line

• Work Completed: Phase 1 and 2 resulting into initial duration and cost estimate

• Project Need: To get approval by Rail authority

• Rail Authority Requirement: Project crashing to reduce impairment from 17

weeks to less

• Project Flow chart: If predecessor activities are done other tasks can start
simultaneously resulting into less aggregate time if done in sequence.
Project Scheduling

• Project scheduling is deciding what tasks are to be done,

when and how to ensure completion of the project on
time.
• It involves the decision which task is to be done preceding
or succeeding other tasks and what resources are to be
allocated to the same to ensure completion of the project
in the minimum time and cost possible.
Project Crashing

• Project crashing is the method for reducing the overall

time for completion of the project by reducing the time
required to complete individual critical tasks.
• This also involves undertaking of activities that can be
done simultaneously such that it reduces the overall cost
of the project.
