WHAT IS SPECIFICATION

• A detail description of quality of materials and workmanship required for

completion of engineering project in accordance with its drawing and
detail is known as specification.
• Drawings and specification form two important parts of contract
document.
• The specification shows the following details:
• Type and quality of material
• Method of preparation of item
• Quality of workmanship 3

• Method of measurement of item

IMPORTANCE OF SPECIFICATION
• Sometimes is not possible to furnish all the information on the drawings
regarding the quality of materials to be used and the quality of
workmanship to be achieved during construction due to shortage of space.
• The drawings and specification from two important document in case of
discrepancy between specification and drawings the specification gives
more legal strength.
• The rates of item depends upon the specification
• Specification are necessary during supervising the work.
• Specification are required by the contractor to fill the rates of item. 4
PURPOSE OF SPECIFICATION
