 Storm water Drainage Design using SSA
 Validation of Results
 Sewerage System Design
 Conclusion
Master Plan Network
Let’s take the network between the nodes 3 & 2. 600
• Drain width (B) = 0.6m
• Water depth (h) = 0.29m
• Slope of drain (S) = 0.006 m/m
• Manning’s constant (n) = 0.015
• Hydraulic radius (R) = A/P = (0.6x0.29)/(0.6+2x0.29) = 0.147m
Manning’s formula for velocity
V = (1/n) x R2/3 x S1/2
= (1/0.015) x 0.1472/3 x 0.0061/2
= 1.4 m/s
As per Storm & Sanitary Analysis
V = 1.38 m/s which is nearly equal to 1.4 m/s
Hence OK.
As per calculation
Q = CiA
Where,
C = Coefficient of runoff = 1.0
i = Intensity of rainfall = 50 mm/hr
A = Catchment area = 15605.8 m2
Q = 1 x 15605.8 x 50 /(1000 x 3600)
=0.21 m3/s
As per Storm & Sanitary Analysis
Q = 0.203 m3/s which is nearly equal to 0.21 m3/s
Hence OK..
Sewerage Network Manhole Sizes & shapes
Population for one apartment = 3 x 8 x 5 = 120 persons
Water Supplied =180 LPCD
Sewage Generated/ Apartment = 0.8x180x120/(24x60x60x1000)
=0.0002 CMS
No. of Apartments =12
Total sewage generated =12 x 0.0002
=0.0032 CMS
For node between 13 to 12
Required Discharge input = 0.0035 CMS
Assumed pipe size = 150mm
Assumed slope = 1:150
Manning’s constant = 0.011
Velocity of Flow = (1/n) x R2/3 x S1/2
= (1/0.011) x 0.03752/3 x (1/1500)/2
= 0.832 m/s = permissible Hence OK
Actual Discharge Output = A x V
= 0.0088 x 0.832
= 0.0073 CMS > 0.0035 CMS Hence OK
FRL of starting manhole = 99.6m
IL of starting manhole = 99.6 – 1 = 98.6m
IL of ending manhole = 98.6 – (Length/slope)
=98.6 – (29/150)
=98.567m
Depth of Starting manhole = 1m
Depth of ending manhole = FRL – IL
= 99.6 – 98.567
=1.003m
Hence provide BBM manhole of size 1200 x 900 mm & pipe 150 mm diameter @ 1:150 slope.

Storm and Sanitary Analysis is an advanced, powerful, and comprehensive
package for analyzing and designing urban drainage systems, storm water
sewers, and sanitary sewers. The software is easy to learn & use. The
software allows you, at any time, to interactively add, insert, delete or
move any network element, automatically updating the model. Its
advanced output enables the user to make his deliverable in short time.
Storm & sanitary Analysis have wide range of capabilities; hence we can
rely on single software instead of using different softwares for different
designs.
The Results of software are reliable & can be cross checked by
mathematical calculations.
