Decision of Senior High

School Students and
College Graduates on
Choosing their Course”
Angco, Shania Josephine N.
Paulin, Ybarra Baghani A.
CHAPTER I
THE PROBLEM AND
ITS SETTING
Statement of the Problem

Major Problem:
What factor greatly affects the decision of senior high
school students and college graduates on choosing
their course?
Statement of the Problem

1st Minor Problem:

What factor dominates per gender?
2nd Minor Problem:
What are the effects of these factors to students'
emotions?
Purpose of the Study

To identify the factor that most influences the

decision of Senior High school students and College
Graduates
Significance of the Study

1. To guide junior high school students and senior

high school students when they consider their
courses
2. To inform parents and teachers to properly guide
the students on the course they are fit in.
Scope and Limitations

Focus: Knowing the factors that affect the decision of

senior high students and college graduates on
choosing their course.
CHAPTER II
REVIEW OF RELATED
LITERATURE
Summary

Related studies shows that financial stability of

family, influence of parents, job availability, pay, and
genuine interest in subject are commonly considered
the most when the students are picking their courses.
CHAPTER III
METHODOLOGY
Research Design

Grounded Theory
Research Locale
The researchers will conduct their
survey and hand over questionnaires at
Jesus the Greatest Name Christian
College and Spirit of Joy School.
Research Participants
Senior High school students and College
Graduates
Sampling Technique

Purposive via convenience sampling

Quota sampling
Research Instruments
Self-developed survey sheets
Research Method

The researchers will conduct an

interview to the Senior High school
students and college graduates to
collect data.
Data Collection Procedure
The researchers will send a letter to schools
with Senior High school students for permission to
conduct a survey. When the researchers got
permission, they will immediately arrange a date and
time to visit the schools for the survey. The survey
sheets consists of 30 questions, which is further
categorized into 6 parts that will help the
researchers to come to a conclusion. After the
survey, the researchers will then handover a free
response questionnaire that consists of 5 questions
for the researchers to further understand why the
said factor were the greatest for them. The
researchers will also contact college graduates that
can spare a time to undergo the same survey and
questionnaires.
Data Sources
• Survey
The researchers will use survey sheets with
questions that will help to lead us to a
valid conclusion about the topic.
• Interview
The researchers will give a free response
questionnaire to the respondents for data
validation purposes.
• Transcription
The researchers will transcribe the
important information that we gather from
the interview that we conducted.
Data Selection Process
The researchers will use purposive,
quota, and convenience sampling in choosing
the participants. Purposive sampling is used
because our intended respondents are Senior
High school students. The researchers will
use quota sampling because the researchers
needed at least 100 respondents for their
research to be valid. Convenience sampling
will be used for the selection of the college
graduate respondents because the researchers
will pick them for their convenient
accessibility and proximity to the
researchers.

INTERVIEW RESULTS

the researchers found that the respondents feels

happy, satisfied, and confident about their decision
when they have to pick their strands/courses
CHAPTER V
CONCLUSIONS AND
RECOMMENDATIONS
CONCLUSION

▪ the most dominant factor that drive the respondents to pick their
course was their self-interest
▪ the factor that dominates among male senior high school and female
senior high school students are their own self-interest and result for
the male and female college graduates are the same too. (Refer to
appendix C).
▪ the researchers found that most of them felt happy and satisfied
when they finally chose their strand/course. (Refer to appendix D)
RECOMMENDATIONS
Recommendations for future researchers

▪ Preparation is a must. Prepare as many schools that will serve as your

respondents as possible.
▪ Send the communication letters (administration letters) as early as
possible
▪ Communication is the key. Keep in touch with all your respondents
especially the schools you have chosen.
▪ When selecting the schools that will be your research location, check
their schedule and first and verify if you have the time to wait for
them to be free.
Recommendations for Students

▪ Try new things. This is crucial because it helps you to fully understand
your capabilities and skills.
▪ Talk to your parents. This is important because your parents are still
the ones who were supporting your education. Even if you know they
will object to your decision, let them understand the reason why you
want to take that course/strand.
Recommendations for Parents

▪ Support your children to try new things. This is important because

this helps your children to fully understand the range of their abilities
and as well to fully understand their selves.
▪ Understand your children. If they object to your recommendations on
strands/courses, understand that even though you are their parents,
they still own their lives and that they may end up hating their
parents if you pushed them with your beliefs.
