REDG. :-1721322002 SEMESTER:-7th BRANCH:CIVIL WHAT IS CURING? Curing is the process of maintaining satisfactory moisture content and temperature in freshly cast concrete for a definite period of time. TYPES OF CURING • PONDING • IMMERSION • FOGGING • WET COVERING METHODS OF CURING SPRINKLING OF WATER PONDING METHOD MEMBRANE CURING STEAM CURING PONDING METHOD It is popular and widely used concrete curing method . Concrete is cured by storing water on the horizontal plane i.e. slab , roof ,road etc. ADVANTAGES Better method as compared to others in most conditions.
Advantageous for horizontal surface &
also helps in cement hydration process. DISADVANTAGES This method cannot be used in vertical surface.
This method requires good amount of
water .
After concrete curing is finished ,it is
difficult to clean the surface. MEMBRANE CURING In this method , the concrete surface is covered with water resistant membrane . It will take about a weak . The main purpose of this process is to resist the concrete evaporation. ADVANTAGES Easy to use in horizontal surface.
Protects concrete surface from weathering
& reduced evaporation. DISADVANTAGES Concrete strength is reduced .
This method is costly as wax
emulsion ,bitumen emulsion etc. is used. STEAM CURING METHOD It is a small precast members & the concrete takes less time to cure properly . In this curing ,method the curing process is aggregated above 22⁰ temperature. ADVANTAGES Concrete curing time is less than others.
Steam curing is better in cold weather.
DISAVANTAGES This method cannot be applied in large surface.
It is costly as curing is done in temperature
above 22⁰c. SPRINKLING WATER This method requires huge amount of water .In this method ,water is applied to the concrete after an interval of time . The water should be continuously applied so that the concrete does not dry out. ADVANTAGES Concrete never dries as water is applied frequently.
This method can be used in any surface
i.e. horizontal , vertical. DISADVANTAGES This method requires huge amount of water , so it is bit costly. PONDING It is popular and widely used concrete curing method . It is cured by storing water on the horizontal plane i.e. slab , roof ,road etc. IMMERSION Immersion is also a nearly fool-proof way of curing .If moist room fogging nozzle clog or there’s a temporary loss of water pressure , cylinders in the moist room could dry , reducing strength . Immersion eliminates that concern. FOGGING In this curing of concrete floors ,where you make sure that there will be no plastic shrinkage cracking in mixes that have low bleeding rates . It is closely related to evaporation of concrete after it’s been placed and before it’s been cured. WET • It is COVERING such as hessian or other retaining fabrics are extensively used for curing. Such coverings should be placed as soon as the concrete has hardened sufficiently to prevent surface damage. THANK YOU
