Different Types

Limericks Haiku Free Verse Acrostic


Limericks

◦ Rules!
◦ It must only have five lines.
◦ The 1st,2nd, and 5th line must rhyme!
◦ The 3rd and 4th must rhyme!
◦ It must have a comical nature to it
◦ In other words, it’s funny
◦ Example:

A woman who once heard a mouse


Ran screaming all throughout her house
She sent in the cat
To dispose of the rat
Only to find it was her spouse.

Rhyme Scheme:
AABBA

◦ The first line must have 5 syllables
◦ The second line must have 7 syllables
◦ The third line must have 5 syllables
◦ Usually has beautifully descriptive words
Example:

under the piled-up snow
the sound of water

◦ Rules:
◦ Think of a word
◦ Write it vertical
◦ Begin every sentence with the letter you wrote out
◦ Relate them back
Example:
