information
 New Media – Currently challenges the broadcast media in
terms of audience size

 Oral Communication was the primary
medium of communication
 Later used drawings and carvings on wood
and stones to document significant events
and rituals (ie. Petroglyphs, cave drawings)
 Primitive forms of paper also emerged in the
form of leather to papyrus sheets and
parchments
 It allowed information to be stored for longer
periods of time for future reference
 The shift from agricultural and handicraft
economy to one dominated by machines led
to the industrial age of media.
 The Gutenberg Printing Press, mechanical
movable type printing press was invented in
1446
 Telegraph became popular as a means of
communication. Later on, the telephone was
invented
 Print media is the main source of information
during this age
 Radio and Television were invented
 Innovations to previous inventions took
place during this age of media
 Mass Media emerged and changed the
world’s communications
 Broadcast Media became the primary
source of information, although print is
still used.
 This started when the internet was
discovered
 Previous media technologies were updated
and improved upon to accommodate this
computerized version of information and
communication production and
dissemination.
 It is becoming the main source of information
 Everything is fast in this age because of fast-
paced technological advancements
