Characteristics of Islamic Music
 Melisma Singing - Melisma is the singing of a single
syllable of text while moving between several
different notes in succession. Music sung in this style
is referred to as melismatic, as opposed to syllabic, in
which each syllable of text is matched to a single note.
 Narrow Singing - It is used in singing to help narrow
singing vowels to maintain stability and intrinsic
musculature support when singing with amplification.
 Tremolo - a wavering effect in a musical tone,
produced either by rapid reiteration of a note, by rapid
repeated slight variation in the pitch of a note, or by
sounding two notes of slightly different pitches to
produce prominent overtones.
 Strained Voice - A hoarse voice, also known as
dysphonia, is when the voice involuntarily sounds
breathy, raspy, or strained, or is softer in volume or
lower in pitch. A hoarse voice, can be associated with
a feeling of unease or scratchiness in the throat.
 Nasal Enunciation - the voice is focused purely
around the nose and nasal area.
