TRIBON

TRAINING
DESIGN DEPARTMENT, COCHIN SHIPYARD LTD.
TRIBON TRAINING SESSIONS

Introduction
 This Training Course is intended to give a comprehensive introduction
to the concept and use of Tribon to the trainees.
 The trainees are expected to actively participate in the training and
exercises, and their understanding of Tribon will be assessed by a test.

WHAT IS TRIBON….?
 Tribon: Industry standard software for CAD  CAE  CAM in
Shipbuilding.

 Developed by Tribon Solutions.

 Tribon-M3 is the last Tribon version.
 CSL has Tribon-M2 installed.
 In 2004 Tribon Solutions have been acquired by AVEVA Group.

TRIBON TRAINING SESSIONS

Tribon Concept
 Tribon has been designed to provide a structured way to develop and
improve the information flow between the different tasks within the
shipbuilding process, where many design development tasks are
performed in parallel.

 The Tribon system is based on the use of a Product Information Model

(PIM) database.

 The information in the Product Information Model contains all the

technical data that is needed to define the final product  SHIP.

Information Model
 PIM  A comprehensive "Ship Database" containing all information
about a specific project.

DESIGN DEPARTMENT, COCHIN SHIPYARD LTD.

TRIBON TRAINING SESSIONS

Characteristics of PIM
 Multi User Concurrent Access to the Product Information Model.
 The data in the Product Information Model can be created and updated by
many designers and production engineers working both in parallel within
technical disciplines and across disciplines.
 Hull and outfitting designers, for example, can therefore work together in a
concurrent manner

 Database Capable of Handling a Complete Ship.

 much reduced volume of documentation,
 less duplication of work,
 fewer inconsistencies and errors,
 less revisions and changes

 Re-use and Refinement of Information in Later Design Stages.

 For example, pipe data, such as the diameter of a pipeline, defined during the
diagram stage is then available for refinement and modification at the
modelling stage.

TRIBON TRAINING SESSIONS

Characteristics of PIM
 Integration of Hull and Outfitting.
 The close association between the Hull and Outfit data in allows the hull
structure and outfit designers to work in parallel sharing the most up-to-date
information during design development and producing well integrated final
arrangements.

 Component Catalogue.
 The Component Catalogue is continuously updated by a shipyard, and
component data can easily be shared between yards and design agents.

 Specific Rules for each type of Object.

 For example, the pipe modelling functions can check the practical capabilities
to bend a particular pipe in the shipyard pipe bending machines.

TRIBON TRAINING SESSIONS

Characteristics of PIM
 Additional information can be readily derived, from the PIM.
 For example, if there is a rule that a stiffener is welded to an adjacent plate,
then the amount of weld can be calculated from that rule and the stiffener
model.

 Ease of Making Changes and Copying Design Arrangements.

TRIBON TRAINING SESSIONS

Characteristics of PIM
 Integration of Design and Production Engineering Data Structures.

 Automatic Production Information.

Data Structures
TRIBON TRAINING SESSIONS

of the PIM
 Surface
 E.g. Main Deck, Engine room Bulkhead, Inner Bottom etc.

DESIGN DEPARTMENT, COCHIN SHIPYARD LTD.

Data Structures
TRIBON TRAINING SESSIONS

of the PIM
 Compartment
 Eg. Cargo Tank or a Machinery Space.

DESIGN DEPARTMENT, COCHIN SHIPYARD LTD.

Data Structures
TRIBON TRAINING SESSIONS

of the PIM
 System
 E.g. a Sea Water ballast system and a Lub Oil system
 A system contains equipment that is inter-connected objects and
components, such as by pipes, cables or ventilation trunks, etc.

Data Structures
TRIBON TRAINING SESSIONS

of the PIM
 Block
 Typically a major assembly of hull steel and outfit support structure and
which is typically then lifted into its final hull position in the building
dock

DESIGN DEPARTMENT, COCHIN SHIPYARD LTD.

Data Structures
TRIBON TRAINING SESSIONS

of the PIM
 Module
 It could be all outfit in a compartment or in a complex section or
region, for example, deck piping in a supporting frame work.

DESIGN DEPARTMENT, COCHIN SHIPYARD LTD.

Data Structures
TRIBON TRAINING SESSIONS

of the PIM
 Assembly
 A grouping of parts or sub assemblies which will be joined together in
the construction process at a particular stage.

TRIBON TRAINING SESSIONS

TRIBON DRAFTING
 For Product Information Model viewing,
 For the developing of drawings and
 For three-dimensional, 3D, volume modelling.
