Objectives:

• Be acquainted with the Photoshop

Interface.

• Understand the concept and use of

Photoshop.

• Create and manipulate digital graphic

images using the different tools and
plug-ins of Photoshop.
What is Photoshop?
Photoshop is Adobe's photo
editing, image creation and
graphic design software.

The software provides many

image editing features for raster
(pixel-based) images as well as
vector graphics. It uses a layer-
based editing system that
enables image creation and
altering with multiple overlays
that support transparency.
Uses of Photoshop:
• Resizing
• Photo Restoration
• World Wide Web (Graphics for
web, web designs, navigations)
• Video Segmenting and Animation
• Digital Materials
Getting Started to Photoshop:
 1. Begin by opening Adobe
Photoshop CC. On a PC, click
Start > Programs > Adobe >
Photoshop CC, or click on the
shortcut on the desktop.

 On a Mac, click Go >

Applications > Adobe
Photoshop CC > Photoshop
CC, or click the icon in the
Dock.
Setting up New Document:
 To create a new
document, click File
> New. This will open
the Document
Setup dialog box
Interface Layout
Palettes: Color
The Color palette displays the
current foreground and
background colors and RGB
values for these colors. You can
use the sliders to change the
foreground and background
colors in different color modes.
You can also choose a color
from the spectrum of colors
displayed in the color ramp at
the bottom of the palette.
Palettes: Swatches
In the Swatches
palette you can
choose a foreground
or background color
and add a customized
color to the library
Palettes: Styles
The Styles palette allows
you to view, select, and
apply preset layer styles.
By default, a preset style
replaces the current layer
style. You can use the
styles in the palette or
add your own using the
Create New Style icon.
Palettes: History
The History palette stores and
displays each action
performed allowing you
jump to any recent stage of
the image alteration. The
alterations should be
created during the current
working session.
Palettes: Adjustment
The Adjustment layers
palette give you the
ability to apply an effect
to a group of layers in
Photoshop, and then you
can edit that effect later,
while preserving the
original layers.
Palettes: Layer
Layers let you organize your
work into distinct levels that
can be edited and viewed
as individual units. Every
Photoshop CS6 document
contains at least one layer.
Creating multiple layers lets
you easily control how your
artwork is printed, displayed,
and edited.

Photoshop Brush Tool: A Basic
Guide

The Brush tool is a basic painting tool. It

works like a traditional drawing tool by
applying the color using strokes. It's
located in the standard Tool Bar and its
default shortcut is the letter B.

How Blend Modes Work

The Opacity slider in the Layers Panel allows you

to blend the active layer with the layers below
by making the active layer translucent, which in
turn allow the layers below to show through. The
blend modes found in Photoshop allow the
same process to take place, but by using
different mathematical calculations for each
blend mode.
How Blend Modes Work

The blending mode specified in the options bar

controls how pixels in the image are affected by a
painting or editing tool. Think in terms of the following
colors when visualizing a blending mode’s effect:

•The base color is the original color in the image.

•The blend color is the color being applied with the
painting or editing tool.
•The result color is the color resulting from the blend.
