UDAYANA UNIVERSITY, INDONESIA
Background

 Wastewater treatment at PT Indonesia Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) Nusa

Dua used waste stabilization ponds system.
 In processing water from maturation pond to irrigation water, there is a new technology
called Dissolved Air Flotation by producing the quality of irrigation water as well as by-
products in the form of sludge waste.
 The remaining sludge waste is an organic sludge that is potentially to be re – processed
into organic fertilizer through the process of fermentation
Methodology

 The process of fermentation of sludge into organic fertilizer is given the

addition of variations in effective concentration of each bio-activator to
produce organic fertilizers containing C-organic, pH, and nitrogen (N)
according to the standard of the Ministry of Agriculture Regulation No.
70/Permentan/SR.140/10/2011.
 The sample of this research is the residual sludge from the processing of
wastewater into irrigation water at PT. Indonesian Tourism Development
(ITDC) Nusa Dua, Bali fermented using three types of bio-activator namely
spoiled rice, molasses, and yeast with each concentration of 25 ml/l
sludge, 50 ml/l sludge, and 75 ml/l sludge
Research Finding and Discussion

produce single cell protein in the process
of fermentation of organic sludge so that
nitrogen content will increase because
nitrogen is a major component of single
cell protein (Hidayati et al., 2011)

Effective Concentrations of Yeast, Spoiled Rice, and Molasses Bioactivators in
Sludge Fermentation

 Based on research finding, beside control, the effective

concentration to produce organic fertilizer in accordance
with the standards of the Minister of Agriculture Regulation
No. 70/Permentan/SR.140/10/2011 is at concentration of
75 gr/l of sludge in yeast, spoiled rice, and molasses bio-
activators.
 The c-organic content of each bio-activator used is in
accordance with the standards which is at least 6%.
 On the other hand, Nitrogen concentration is still below
standard.
 The C/N ratio resulting from the fermentation of sludge
with each bio-activator is still below the standard C/N
ratio of soils (10-12).
 However, from each bio-activator that is able to produce
a C/N ratio close to the soil, that is, the molasses bio-
activator 75ml/l of mud with a C / N ratio of 8,1
