CASE
-tells
whether a pronoun
shows possession or acts
as a subject or object in the
sentence
A personal pronoun has 3
cases:
• Subjective Pronoun
• Objective Pronoun
• Possessive Pronoun
A subject pronoun - (also called a
nominative pronoun) is used as the
subject of a sentence or as a subject
complement following a linking verb.

of a Sentence

Example:
I bit the monster.
She read four novels that summer.

• Example
The superhero was he.
The villain in the novel was he.
• An object pronoun (also called an
objective pronoun) is used as a direct
object, an indirect object, or the object of a
preposition.
Direct Object
-is the object of an action verb-
what the verb is affecting(a.k.a.
receives the action)

Rule: Find the direct object by finding


first the verb. Then ask What? Or
Whom?

Example: He bounced the ball


Indirect Object
-receives the direct object

Rule: Find the indirect object by first


finding the direct object . Then ask
who/what will receive that direct
object.

Example: Joe give Jim some


meatballs
Object of the Preposition
-The noun, noun phrase, noun
clause, or objective personal
pronoun after a preposition.

Example:
Jim runs the old trail with me.
We sail alongside her.
• Possessive pronouns show ownership

#1 There are two sets of possessive


pronouns. My, your, his, her, its, our,
your, and their are usually classified as
possessive pronouns.

Example:
My pencil fell on the floor, and his pencil
ended up on her desk.
# 2 The second set of possessive
pronouns consists of the words mine,
yours, his, hers, its, ours, and theirs.

Example:
Hey! That's mine, not yours!
