 First novel written by Filipino Patriot and national

hero Dr. Jose Rizal on March 21, 1887 and published in


Berlin, Germany.
 It is a Latin phrase that means “Touch Me Not”. This
phrase is mentioned in the bible in the book of St.
John the Baptist 20:17, by Jesus to Mary Magdalene
when she recognized him after his resurrection.
 In this novel, Rizal described in detail the sufferings of
his countrymen under spanish rule.
 The first half of NOLI ME TANGERE was written in
Madrid,Spain from 1884-1885. Then he continued in
Paris,France.
 The second half of NOLI ME TANGERE was written in
Berlin, Germany starting February 21, 1887 until it
finished.
