What is a Reaction Paper?
• A reaction paper is not just a paper where you
express your opinion. These papers require a close
reading to the text that goes beyond the surface
meaning. You must respond to implied ideas,
elaborate, evaluate and analyze the author’s
purpose and main points.
• A reaction paper is a type of written assignments,
which requires personal opinion and conclusions on
a given article.

A reaction to something you have read or seen
Be organized
Have citations and references
Includes your opinions but be careful to support your opinions with evidence
Summarize what you are reacting to in the beginning of the paper
Explain you reaction(s) to the topic and explain why you think about this topic this
way
Judge, analyze or evaluate the issues of the topic
Identify and discuss the polarizing issues on the topic
What is Critique Paper?
• Critique paper requires students to conduct a critical analysis of another piece of
writing often a book, journal, article or essay.
• critique means to review or examine something critically. As a noun, a critique is that
review or examination, like an art essay or a book report. The French version of this
word is spelled the same

a summary. Like a summary, a critique identifies the central
problem or issue, defines the central claim, looks at the specific
questions, notes experimental and theoretical approaches, and
reviews the results and their significance.
What is Review Paper?
• A review paper is an article that summarizes the current state of understanding on a
topic. A review paper surveys and summarizes previously published studies, rather
than reporting new facts or analysis. Review paper are sometimes also called survey
articles or, in news publishing, overview articles.
• The purpose of a review paper is to succinctly review recent progress in a particular
topic. Overall, the paper summarizes the current state of knowledge of the topic. It
creates an understanding of the topic for the reader by discussing the findings
presented in recent research papers.
When you review an Article
You must answer these questions:
What is this about
Why is the topic important
What was done
Key result (or what happened)
What was left unanswered (according to authors)
Your critique of the article
