WHAT IS CINEMA?
 CINEMA is short form of cinemetograph
(er).
 It is the technique of projecting photograms
in a fast and succesive way to creat the
sense of movement.
ORIGIN OF CINEMA….
Cinema was made possible thanks to the
invention of the cinematograph by the lumiere
Brothers in end of 19th century(on december
28, 1895),in the basement lounge of great café
on BOULEVARD DES CAPUCINES in PARIS
Film industry…..
 Film industry consists of technological
and commercial institution of filmmaking.
Indian film industry…
 India is the largest producer of films in
the world in terms of ticket sales and
numbers of films produced.
 The indian films are multi lingual
 The industry is support maily by vast film
 Going indian public, and indian films have
been gaining increasing popularity in the
rest of the world.
Bollywood ….
 Bollywood is the informal term popularly used for the
hindi language film industry based in mumbai.

 Its all about INDIAN CINEMA.

 The name “bollywood” is derived from
bombay (the former name for mumbai)
and hollywood (center of american film
industry.
8 Trends That are Taking Centerstage
in the Film Industry…
1) Computer Generated Imagery and Practical
Effects:
- Practical effects have made a major comeback in the
space – and it appears like they’ll be here to stay.
- Some of the major films using practical effects
include Max Max: Fury Road, an Star Wars:The
Force Awakens.
2)Evolving Consumer Ecosystems…

 This disruption in the industry’s traditional

business model has an impact on the
production, distribution, and marketing of films.
 Players in the sector have no option but to
learn to work within these evolving consumer
ecosystems.
 On the positive side, the new tech-based
platforms have opened an easy worldwide
market for film producers.
3) What’s Next for Virtual and Augmented
Reality...

 Never-ending changes in technology are also

having a direct influence on the storytelling.
 In the recent past, technology has enabled
virtual reality (computer generated simulations
of 3-dimensional images/environments).
 Upcoming technology will give a push to
augmented reality, which has been lagging
behind on multiple fronts.
4)Low-Budget Films are Cropping Up Online….

 There’s a boom of short low-budget films available on

Netflix, Amazon, YouTube, and other video platforms.

 As technology makes distribution of films easier, student

groups and little known producers are using these
platforms to launch their productions.
5)Increased Diversity in Films…

 . Female leads are showing up in traditionally

male roles, and racial diversity is becoming a
common thing in films that traditionally
included an all-white cast.
 The film industry is – and will continue to be –
more accommodative of diversity, flexibility, and
creativity.
 Perhaps due to increased social commentary,
we are seeing more and more diversity in films.
6)More Films Based on Real-Life Events..

 Statistics show that less than 7% of films in

US Cinemas were based on real-life events
in 1996.
 Fast forward to 2016 (2 decades later) and
the situation is entirely different – up to 27%
of films are inspired by real life events.
 The majority of these films are low-budget,
with the romantic comedy taking up the
biggest percentage of films that are based on
real-life.
 As well in bollywood also.
7)Faith-Based Films are Becoming More Profitable…

 Faith-based films are becoming intensely profitable in the market.

 A good example is ‘The Passion of the Christ’, which used a $30 budget but
ended up grossing a whopping $612 million in the box office.
 As in bollywood,
1. DANGAL , 2016 ,2,024–2,100 crore.
2. Baahubali 2:The Conclusion , 2017 , 1,810 crore .
3. Bajrangi Bhaijaan, 2015 , 969.06 crore .
4. Secret Superstarr, 2017, 966.86 crore .
5. PK, 2014 832 crore .
6. 2.0 , 2018, 800 crore
7. Baahubali:The Beginning, 2015, 650 crore .
8. Sultan , 2016, 623.33 crore .
9. Sanju, 2018 , 586.85 crore
10. Padmaavatt 2018 , 585 crores.
8) We Have Here a Horror Movie Boom…..

 Over the last few years, film production

levels have been increasing across genres.
But no sector has seen a faster boom
than the ‘Horror’ genre.
 This is a far cry from the situation 20
years ago in 1996, when horror films
constituted just 4% of total film
production.
Impact of cinema on
youth of india and
society…..
 Our society is today more influenced
by media and films.
 Everyday we come across incidents
that happens arround us seems have
got more influence of the films that the
youth views.
 Well form the young to old and from
childern to youth we hear them sing
latest filmy songs.
 Today aschool going child knows all the
latest movies and latest songs that is
being released in the theaters.
Impacts …. Positive as well
negative..
Positive impacts….. (+)
 Progressive thoughts like gender equality, organ
donation spread easily through movies. For example,
‘Dangal’ movie inspired many to encourage their
daughters in sports.
 Till recently, most of the Indians preferred engineering
or medicine as the career choice. This belief is changing
these days, and movies too has a role in this
change. Careers of lead characters in movies impacts
young people greatly. For example, ‘Ghaji’ movie
attracted many towards career in Navy.
 Though most of Indian movies concentrate on love
between lead roles, these days many movies are
coming with wonderful story lines and is influencing
youth to focus on life goals rather than just
concentrating on love phase.
 Several Indian movies on current issues are
thought provoking and are highlighting the
mistakes people are doing. For example,
‘Shatamanambhavathi’ movie highlights the
plight of parents that are left behind by
abroad-settled children.
 Movies are a great source of
entertainment. People can relive from
stress and pressure at work or studies by
watching movies.
 Through movies, cultures are depicted
wonderfully. Hence, movies
increases cultural sensitivity.
Negative impacts…….(-)
 Indian movies show eve-teasing and stalking as
normal and sometimes as heroic. This is impacting
youth negatively and is turning them into harassers.
 Most of the filmmakers ignore their responsibility
towards society and add commercial elements to
make their movies success. These kind of filmmakers
make movies that do not offer any good to society,
but spreads negative elements like violence, stalking
etc.
 These days Indian movies are objectifying women by
adding item songs or special songs. Irony is that on
one hand they preach gender sensitivity, on the other
hand they make songs that are demeaning to women.
 In most of the Indian movies, male lead drinks
alcohol and shows it as heroic. In some movies,
male lead smokes too. This influences teenagers,
who have strong emotions.
 Movies always depict luxury lifestyle and rarely
shows middle class lives. This leads to increase in
consumeristic society, and the worst impact will
be on youth.
 Some filmmakers impose their personal opinions
on society through movies. This kind of movies
may depict certain communities or religions in a
negative light.
 Movies encourage people to take revenge. Rarely
movies show lead characters fight in a legal way. In
many films, lead characters kill antagonists by
themselves. This is a threat to our society and
legal administration.
Conclusion………….
 Indian Cinema is changing for good. But
still there are many elements that needs
to be changed for the betterment of
society. Filmmakers need to realize their
responsibility towards society, instead of
just concentrating on success.
