PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE FOR OVERLOCK

MACHINE MAINTENANCE
• Machines are subjected to deterioration
• Due to their use and exposure to environment
• Repair, maintain and recondition them so as to elongate their life time
• Mainly, there are two kind of Maintenance:
 Preventive Maintenance
 Corrective Maintenance
PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE
• Plan is based on time duration and working hour of machine.
• Reduces the frequency of breakdown maintenance
• The productivity increases and this improves quality of products also.
• No irregular stitches, Jump stitch, broken stitch, puckering.
• Should be in recorded and documented
Daily Maintenance
• Done by the operator itself in order to carry out Preventive
maintenance
• Following things should be carried out each day:
1. Turn off the power switch.
2. Remove bobbin case, bobbin and needle.
3. Clean Hook set, feed dog, bobbin case etc.
4. Check the quality of needle.
5. Check the oil level as well as clean
6. Finally, clean all the outer surface verify smooth running
7. Put fabric between feed dog and pressure foot and needle.
Routine Maintenance
• Lubrication and regular inspection are the constituents
• Ensures long life and safe working
• Inspection tries to detect faults in equipments
• So that repairs and replacements may be undertaken
• Following points needs to be inspected and ensured :
 Needle
 Stitch density controller
 Pressure foot
 Tensioner
 Motor
Scheduled Maintenance
• For inspection, overhaul, lubrication and servicing of the machine at
predetermined dates.
• Should be performed every 3 months or 1000 hours of operation.
• Following is the easiest format for schedule Maintenance:
Things to be done while doing schedule Maintenance
for Overlock Machine:
• Drain the old oil and clean the tank,
• Remove the headcover and wipe clean
• Remove the Stitch Plate and area around feed dog
• Cleaning of motor through air blower.
• Remove all sewing parts and clean out all dust
particles/ fibres through air blower, fabric and brush.
• Clean the cutting knife
• Oiling or Lubricating
• Remove the oil filter and check for contaminants
• Wipe clean all thread contact surfaces and check for
irregular, nicks or burrs
• Replace the defected parts
• Check play in needle bar and in pressure foot
• Covers and fill oil as per guideline
