BACKGROUND
The housekeeping need to prepare must prepare the rooms for incoming
guest as soon as possible. Consider that the room must be thoroughly
cleaned and inspected in such a short period of time, it is clear that
scheduling of employee in the largest housekeeping expense, the executive
housekeeper must be sure not to overschedule the department’s work force,
for calling too many employee to work result in decreased departmental
profit.
In other hand, not having enough section housekeepers to quickly turn over
ready rooms to the front desk, will result in incoming guest having to wait in
the lobby until enough rooms, this will cause guest dissatisfaction and an
eventual loss of business.
SECTION HOUSEKEEPING
NEED TABLE
Lodging properties may resort to hiring employees who are willing to work
less than 40 hours per week, such as semi-retired people or college
students.
FLEXIBLE WORK HOURS
In the small properties employee may be allowed to begin and end their shift
at times convenient to them. This system will appeal to workers and increas
e their morale. On the other hand, the coordination of task in the department
can be a nightmare if the employee allowed too much flexibility. The flexible
working hours could be adopted in properties where the arrival and
departure guest is predictable
JOB SHARING
The purpose of job sharing is to allow 2 or more employee to accomplish a
job regardless of who does it at any particular time. This system may be
quite appealing to workers, but the loss of supervisor control is very obvious.
This system can be applied to small properties where the employees are
well known to manager and have proven to be reliable
GUESTROOM
TEAM CLEANING
Some recent surveys of housekeeper have shown that pairing room attenda
nce for guestroom
Cleaning may improve productivity and enhance morale. On the other hand,
guestroom team cleaning may have the risk of collusion and lower productivi
ty by having two largely unsupervised workers in each other’s company.
