PRACTICAL RESEARCH

• means actual doing or using of something rather than

theories and ideas. It involves inquiry methods and
immersion activities in order to achieve the correct
information for actual use.
• is research directed towards problems which have a
practical, “day-to-day” nature (Agusto, 2017).
• Research on cancer treatment; finding a cure
to malaria; or researching how to stop global
warming;
• Research on how a virus kills a cell leading to
“engineering” viruses that can kill cancer
cells.

GRADING SYSTEM
• Discuss the importance of research in daily life;
• Describe the characteristics, processes and ethics of
research;
• Identify the different kinds of research across fields;
• Differentiate qualitative from quantitative research;
• Formulate clearly a statement of research problem; and
• Design a research project related to everyday life.

QUARTER OBJECTIVES
1. Research improves quality of life
It has led to some of the most commercially successful and life-
saving discoveries like laser, vaccines and drugs, and the
development of technological advancements in response to
man’s needs, curiosity and problems. Through creativity, tenacity
and passion, researchers are tackling and solving big challenges
such as climate change, food security, life-threatening diseases
and artificial intelligence.

VALUES OF RESEARCH TO MAN

• Artificial intelligence (AI) refers to the
simulation of human intelligence in machines
that are programmed to think like humans and
mimic their actions. May also refer to any
machine that exhibits traits associated with a
human mind such as learning and problem-
solving.
2. Research improves instruction
Educational researches focus on bringing research to
practice.
Modern teachers introduce innovations and integrates
rational thinking, right conduct, and research (3Rs) in all
subject areas in his teaching.

VALUES OF RESEARCH TO MAN

3. Research improves students’
achievement
Researchers stress the use of multiple data sources and using
data in instructional decisions can lead to improved student
performance.
Data analysis can provide a snapshot of what students know,
what they should know, and what can be done to meet their
academic needs.

VALUES OF RESEARCH TO MAN

3. Research improves students’
achievement
With appropriate analysis and interpretation of data, educators
can make informed decisions that positively affect student
outcomes.
Schools collect enormous amounts of data on students’
attendance, behavior, and performance, as well as administrative
data and perceptual data from surveys and focus groups.

VALUES OF RESEARCH TO MAN

4. Research improves teachers’
competence
Research oriented teachers always conduct research to improve
their competence and produce graduates who respond to the
socioeconomic development of the country and can compete
with other graduates of the world.

VALUES OF RESEARCH TO MAN

5. Research satisfies man’s needs
Modern facilities that satisfy man’s needs
are all products of research.

VALUES OF RESEARCH TO MAN

6. Research reduces the burden of work
Workplace parties want to improve both
organizational performance and worker health. They
want practical ways to reduce the risk factors
identified in etiological research. Further, they want
to know the best methods for change and to see
evidence that demonstrates the effectiveness of any
changes.

VALUES OF RESEARCH TO MAN

• Etiological Research
A probe on the causes or contributing
factors to the development of a disease or
condition.
7. Research has deep-seated
psychological aspects
It challenges man to get rid of the danger of
stagnation. It is an open door to a better tomorrow and
it guides him in his efforts to obtain good results
which contribute to his satisfaction and self-
fulfilment.

VALUES OF RESEARCH TO MAN

8. Research improves the exportation
of food products
Some international research agencies provide
financial support for the researches in the Philippines
for a closer partnership in raw material exchange.

VALUES OF RESEARCH TO MAN

9. Research responds to the economic
recovery and austerity measures of
the country
Research outputs are converted to income generating
projects to train students to earn while they learn.

VALUES OF RESEARCH TO MAN

10. Research trains graduates to become
responsive to the economic development of
the country and compete globally.
The challenges that face the world today—from global poverty
and climate change to financial systems and conflict—require
globally-minded solutions. Global competency skills are
necessary so that young people can invent a future that
appropriately addresses global challenges.

RESEARCH: Discovery
through Inquiry

What’s going on in this picture?

TASK:
1. Discuss how the picture relates to the current scenarios in the country.
2. Generate an argument that you think would solve the depicted crisis.
• An ARGUMENT is a statement or set
of statements aiming to convince people
that your opinion about something
is correct.
Research leads to a solution based on carefully
analyzed information obtained through a rigorous
process of inquiry.
1. Discuss how the picture relates to the current
scenarios in the country.
Crime rates in the United States of America (USA) are on the rise despite
dedicated gun control laws with the aim of lowering crime rates. Gun control is in
its controversial stage in the country with the rise of the mass shooting cases
calling for reforms in the gun control policies.
2. Generate an argument that you think would solve
the depicted crisis.
A stricter gun control program will not necessarily reduce crime rates, as there are
many other causes that lead to crimes in the country. Instead, a further restriction
in guns will only deny law-abiding citizens from their best way of self-defense.
1. Discuss how the picture relates to the current
scenarios in the country.
The editor of an online newspaper the Rappler has been arrested on charges of
cyber-libel, as part of what the country’s journalists’ union said, a campaign of
intimidation against voices critical of President Rodrigo Duterte’s war on drugs.
2. Generate an argument that you think would solve the
depicted crisis.
A free press and a free judiciary are two very important cornerstones of a
democracy. Together, they are responsible for ensuring transparency and holding
those in power accountable for their policies and actions. Although their actual
functions are different, both institutions act as checks and balances for the
government and, therefore, their roles are complementary.
