Understanding

Yourself

BEED-4A
BUTTERFLIES

Not so fat…not so fat

Let it grow, let it last.
NATURE knows… when and why…
With the butterfly.

2
I remember one morning when I saw a cocoon
In a tree. I remembered that I marveled
that
Imprisoned inside was a butterfly waiting
to be free.
Not so fast... not so fast
Let it grow, let it last.
Nature knows… when and why,
With the butterfly.
3
I was very impatient, so I warmed the
cocoon
With the breath of my sigh
And the butterfly trembled and began to
Emerge like a miracle before my eyes.
Not so fast… not so fast.
Let it grow, let it last.
Nature knows… when and how
With the butterfly.
4
All at once I discovered that its delicate
wings
Were all crumbled and torn. When it was not
yet
Ready I caused it to be born. But the
wonder of life
Obeys a definite plan… so he died in the
palm of my hand,
Not by the will of God, but mine.
5
Growth needs space, growth needs time,
I must be attuned to nature’s design.
God Knows when and why,
God holds TIME in the palm of His hand…

6
At twelve or thirteen years of age, you are
like a cocoon and butterfly entering a new
stage in your life. Usually, the changes in you
will be cheered by adults who’ll exclaim:
“how fast you’ve grown!” or “wow, you are
now a lady!”

7
ADOLESCENCE is from the latin word
adolescere, which means, “to ripen,” that
is to grow to maturity.
Adolescence is the stage when one
experiences physical, emotional, and
psychological, changes that will transform
a person from a child to an adult.

8
1.Physical Changes
Physical Changes during puberty
marks the beginning of adolescence.

9
 A boy’s once high-pitched
voice starts to “croak,” a
boy simultaneously
experiences growth spurts.
Suddenly, he is taller than
his mother. Hair appears
on his face around the
mouth area, his armpits
and his pubic area.
10
 At twelve or thirteen
years, a girl will notice
her hips widening, her
breast developing, and
hair growing in her
armpit and pubic area.
She also goes through
growth spurts
11
2. Psychological
Changes

12
 Menstruation signals a girl’s readiness to
conceive a child.
 Boys, however discharge a milky substance
while sleeping. This substance contains
sperms and is called semen.
 The boys and girls become conscious of
each other’s presence and desire each
other’s company.
13
14
3.Emotional Changes

15
 Adolescents tend to break away from their
parents and spend more time with
neighborhood friends and classmates.
 The family solidarity is tested at this period.
Adolescents have also mood swings.
They are sensitive to how people react
toward them.

LOOKING AT
YOURSELF

18
19
Strengths are
your talents,
potentials,
and good
traits.

20
Weakness are
the undesirable
ones which may
be physical,
social, mental, or
emotional.

21
 A mature person accept things
beyond his power to change.
 Attitude will raise your morale and
help develop your positive image.
 Teenagers should learn to look
inward and discover their strengths
and weakness.
