MEANING AND DEFINITION

A Product is anything that can be offered to a market


for attention, acquisition, use or consumption that
might satisfy a want or need. It includes physical
objects, services ,persons ,places ,organizations and
ideas.

 Durable Goods- These are tangible consumer goods
that are used over an extended period of time and
that survive many uses.
 Require more personal selling and service.
Nondurable Goods
 These are consumer goods that are normally consumed
in one or a few uses.
 Purchased frequently
 Strategy : availability , low priced , heavily advertised.
Services

Services are activities, benefits, or


satisfaction that are offered for sale.
 Intangible product
 Requires more quality control and credibility.
Consumer Goods Classification
Consumer goods are those bought by final consumers
for personal consumption .

Convenience Goods - These are consumer goods and


services that the customer usually buys frequently,
immediately and with a minimum of comparison
and buying efforts.
Shopping Goods
Shopping Goods are consumer goods that the
customer in the process of selection and purchase
usually compares on such basis are as suitability,
quality, price and style .
Specialty Goods

 These are consumer goods that have unique


characteristics or brand identification for which a
significant group of buyers is willing to make a
special purchase efforts.
Unsought Goods
These are goods that consumer either does not
know about or knows about but does not
normally think of buying.
Industrial Goods
These are those goods which are bought by
individual or organizations for further
processing or for use conducting business.

 These are industrial goods that enters the


manufacturer’s product completely
 They fall into two classes –

finished goods category partly. they include

These are industrial goods that do not enters the
finished product at all.
 Suppliers includes operating supplies (lubricants,
coal, typing paper, pencils) and maintenance and
repair items (paints, nails, brooms).
Business Services

It includes-
 Maintenance and repair services
 Business advisory services
