This document discusses green building and energy efficiency. It defines green building as a structure designed and built using ecological and resource-efficient methods. Green buildings use less water and energy, generate less waste, and provide healthier spaces. Energy efficiency, which is a key part of green building, allows accomplishing the same work using less energy. This reduces carbon emissions and environmental impacts. The document recommends building green structures, using energy-efficient appliances and infrastructure, and monitoring building performance to increase energy efficiency.

2017806404 EMD7M8A INTRODUCTION Problem Statement: Sustainable development is defined as development that satisfies the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to satisfy theirs. Sustainable development insists on the need to protect the diversity of genes, species, and all terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems in nature. This is possible in particular to protect the quality of the environment, and by the restoration, development, and maintenance of habitats that are essential to species. WHAT IS GREEN BUILDING?
• A Green Building, also know as a sustainable building , is a structure that is
designed, built, renovated, operated, or re-used in an ecological and resource efficient manner. • Green building uses less water, optimizes energy efficiency, conserves natural resources, generates less waste and provides healthier spaces for occupants as compared to a conventional building. OBJECTIVES OF GREEN BUILDING • Protecting occupant health • Improving employee productivity • Using energy, water and other resources more efficiently • Reducing overall impact to the environment • Optimal environmental and economical performance • Satisfying and quality indoor spaces. BENEFITS OF GREEN BUILDINGS Environmental benefits • Reduce the impacts of natural resources consumption Economic benefits • Reduced operating costs • Marketing advantages • Increased building valuation • Optimizes life-cycle performance cost Health and Safety benefits • Enhance occupant comfort and health Community benefits • Minimize strain on local infrastructure and improve quality of life ENERGY EFFICIENCY
What is energy efficiency?
• Using less energy to accomplish the same amount of work.
• Energy efficiency is the most important element of green building.
• Higher level of energy efficiency can reduce the carbon emissions. CURRENT ISSUES • Energy has emerged as a critical economic issue and top priority for policymakers. • Unsustainable energy supply and demand have serious implications for everything from household budgets to international relations. • Current worldwide major energy resources are non-renewable resources. • Energy resources such as oil, coal and natural gas are limited. SUGGESTION & SOLUTION
Install high-performance mechanical systems and appliances
• Apply life cycle assessment to the trade-offs between capital and operating costs. Appliance that meet or exceed ENERGY STAR requirement will reduces plug load demands. Use high-efficiency infrastructure • Efficient street lighting and LED traffic signals will reduce energy demands from neighbourhood infrastructure. Capture efficiencies of scale. • Design district heating and cooling systems, in which multiple buildings are part of a single loop. Use energy simulation. • Computer modelling can identify and prioritize energy efficiency opportunities. Monitor and verify performance • Ensure that the building systems are functioning as designed and support the owner’s project requirement through control systems, a building automation system and commissioning. LACK OF ENERGY EFFICIENCY EFFECTS
• Increased Carbon Footprint
• Increased Risk of Climate Change • Reduction in Energy Resources Supply • Higher energy cost RECOMMENDATION
• Government must set up environmental regulation on any development
activity. • Each building should be build based on green building criteria. • Government should only allowed Energy Star Certified appliances can be used to increase energy efficiency. CONCLUSIONS • Green buildings have important benefits for our environment. • It positively influences our climate and overall ecosystem by reducing water use and energy resources that can pollute our environment. • It is very important to conserve and restore natural resources since most of them are limited. • Efficient energy helps in protecting environment by using less energy in to do same amount of work which reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improves the quality of our air.
