Pay-per-Use-On-Demand mode
WHAT IS CLOUD ?
 Network or Internet
 Present at a Remote Location
 on Public networks or on Private networks i.e. WAN,
LAN or VPN

WHAT IS CLOUD COMPUTING ?

 access the applications as utilities
 over the internet
 create, configure and customize
application online.
HISTORY
 large-scale mainframe computers [IBM ASCC,1944]
 used for communications
 had no internal processing capacities
 practice of sharing CPU time on a mainframe known as time-sharing
 provide and organize computation as a “public utility”
 Professor John McCarthy said “Computing may someday be organized as a public
utility just as the telephone system is a public utility……”
 In 2002, Amazon Web Services
 access storage, computation solutions and other apps
 Facebook was founded in 2004
 In 2006, Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2)
 rent virtual computers
 Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3).
 pay-as-you-go (PAYG) model
 Salesforce.com launched force.com in 2007
 Google Apps launched in 2009; create and store documents
 In 2010 Salesforce.com introduced the cloud-based database at Database.com
 used on any device, run on any platform and written in any programming language
CHARACTERISTICS

CLOUD
COMPUTING
ARCHITECTURE
SERVICE MODELS OF CLOUD COMPUTING
Cloud Computing services can be offered through various
service models , out of which the common ones are IaaS
PaaS and SaaS

END USER

APPLICATION
DEVELOPERS

INFRASTRUCTURE &
NETWORK ARCHITECTS
Software as a Service (SaaS)
 Hosting environment
 Access through networks
 Do not have control over the cloud infrastructure
 Multi-tenancy system architecture
 Economies of scale
 optimization in terms of speed, security, availability,
disaster recovery and maintenance
Platform as a Service (PaaS)
Development platform
Supporting the full “Software Lifecycle”
Develop cloud services and applications
hosts both completed and in-progress cloud applications
Application-hosting environment
Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)
Virtualized infrastructure

Configured with virtualized data storage and network

component

Availability own OS, middleware and applications

Takes care of the Infrastructure management

TYPES OF CLOUD COMPUTING

COMPOSITION OF TWO OR
MORE CLOUDS THAT
REMAIN UNIQUE ENTITIES
BUT ARE BOUND
TOGETHERS;OFFERING THE
BENEFITS OF MULITPLE
DEPLOYMENT MODELS; IS
INTERNALLY OR
EXTERNALLY HOSTED

PROVISIONED FOR OPEN USE FOR USED FOR A SINGLE ORGANIZATION;

SHARED BY SEVERAL ORGANIZATION;
THE PUBLIC OF A PARTICULAR CAN BE INTERNALLY OR
TYPICALLY EXTERNALLY HOSTED, BUT
ORGANIZATION WHO ALSO HOST EXTERNALLY HOSTED.
MAY BE OR CAN BE INTERNALLY
THE SERVICE
HOSTED BY ONE OF THE ORGANIZATION.
Public Cloud
 Open use by the general public

 Owned, managed, and operated

 It exists on the premises of the cloud provider.

Private Cloud
 Use by a single organization
 Owned, managed, and operated
 Concerns on data security and offer greater control
 May exist on or off premises
Community Cloud
Use by a specific community
Owned, managed, and operated
by one or more
Exist on or off premises
Hybrid Cloud
 Two or more distinct cloud infrastructures

 increasing the flexibility

 capable of providing on-demand

CLOUD STORAGE:
Create an Account using
Username & password
Content lives with the
account in the Cloud
Log onto any computer
through internet to find
your contents
Why we move to Cloud Computing?
Computing based on the internet

Run applications or programs from software downloaded on a

physical computer or server

Access to the same kinds of applications through the internet

Access your contents from any where, any time with any device

Increases efficiency

Improve cash flow

Pros: Cons:
High speed internet
Flexibility
Disaster recovery Absence of Common Standards
Automatic software updates
Limited control
Capital-expenditure Free
Work from anywhere Ongoing costs

Environmentally friendly Security

Conclusion:
 “Cloud Computing” has had its share of agreements and disagreements over the years
 The ambiguity still remains as security and privacy concerns.
 The future has cloud computing focusing more on mobility. As Microsoft’s CEO Satya Nadella
states “I don’t think of the cloud and mobile as two things. They are two facets of one thing. The
cloud was created to enable mobility. And mobile devices are really uninteresting without the
cloud. That’s why I talk about them together. Mobile without cloud is limiting. The cloud without
mobile is mostly latent potential. But the place where they meet is magic. And in the full arc of
time, we will get to a world of ubiquitous computing and ambient intelligence that powers all our
daily experiences”.
