A DIALOGUE

WITH GOD
Prayer

 Prayer is a common activity among

Christians. But does every Christian
readily know how to pray? In this lesson,
we will explore the dynamics of Prayer.
 The disciples said to Jesus, “Lord, teach us

to pray.” (Luke 11:1) We can learn best

how to pray from the One who prays
best.
Benefits of Prayer
1. Daily prayer helps you develop a relationship with
god.
2. Daily prayer helps you gain an understanding of god
and his loving nature.
3. Daily prayer provides answers.
4. Daily prayer helps you find direction in your life.
5. Daily prayer aligns your will with god’s will.
6. Daily prayer allows you to repent, change your
behavior, and become more like jesus.

Definition of Prayer

Prayer (n.) –
communicating with
God; an appeal or
wish
Prayer

 Prayer, though often regarded as a

sacred act, is our way of communicating
with God. Nowadays, cellophanes and
other devices have become a necessity to
people in today’s society- bluetooth
devices, tablets, and mobile cell phones!
These are means of communication that
allow two or more people to interact,
discuss, and respond to one another.
Prayer

 In life, although we do not see God,

we can feel his presence and He
wants us to communicate with Him.
There is no better way to show our
dependence on Him than through
prayer.
UNDERSTANDING
PRAYERS
Mean your prayers

Considering that we are talking

with God, it is important that
we pray to God with outmost
respect. This also means that we
do not just utter meaningless
words.
Pray in private
 Jesus instructed us to pray privately in our room
and close the door. He said that our Father who
sees what we do in private will reward us openly
(Matthew 6:6). Jesus was referring to a state of
mind more than a room with a door when He said
these words. What is important is that we be
alone with God wherever we are. Some people
pray best when they are walking in the forest.
Some prefer a room away from other people.
Some are able to be “alone” even when there are
others around them. Again, it is not really the
place. The important thing is to be alone with
God.
A listening God

 God is not just the Almighty God.

He can also be our friend. He
listens to us and wants us to tell
Him our concerns. His love includes
being there to listen to us and to
carry our burdens. When praying,
we experience an opportunity to
be heard by God.
Listening to God
 We also need to listen to God. The best way to
hear from God is to pray with God’s Word
before us. That is God talking to us through the
Bible. The Holy Spirit helps us understand the
truth that God is saying. As soon as the Spirit
makes a truth real to us, we set aside time to
worship God and thank Him for the truth. He has
taught us. We can then continue to read until
God speaks once more from his Word.
HOW CAN WE
LISTEN TO GOD
MORE?
Follow the pattern as you pray.
 A- Adore God: Express your joys,
praises and worship to God.
 C- Confess sins: Ask God’s forgiveness

for sins committed.

 T – Thanksgiving: Express gratefulness

for the goodness of God.

 S- Supplication: Pray for specific needs,

whether it be personal or common.

Tips for Powerful Prayer

Keep your prayers simple,

sincere and short.
Expect God to answer your
prayers.
Listen to God as you pray.
