OUR SALVATION Christian Living 9 Jesus Christ Became man “for us and our Salvation.” ■ When we speak of Jesus Christ as our savior of the world, we basically affirm the following truths: – Jesus Christ is an offering for our sins. Through his death on the cross, Jesus Christ offered the perfect sacrifice for the expiation of our sins. Jesus Christ Became man “for us and our Salvation.” Jesus Christ revealed the Father’s great love for us. He came so that we may have eternal life through Him. Jesus Christ Became man “for us and our Salvation.” Jesus Christ is our model of sanctity. When we live according to the teaching and examples of Christ, we will “never stumble and will be allowed to enter the eternal kingdom.” Jesus Christ Heals our Infirmities ■ Read Luke 4:16-21 ■ Jesus never refused to cure anyone who sought his help. The healing ministry of Jesus Christ always entailed the forgiveness of sins, the healing of infirmities, and the “saving faith” of the person. ■ In healing the blind man, Jesus fulfilled the prophesy of Isaiah about the Messiah, brought glory to God, and moved the blind man to a “mature faith.” ■ Faith and Forgiveness of sins figure prominently in the healing of ministry of Jesus. Jesus Christ Is Our Strength and Consolation ■ There are people who are suffering from severe sickness or disease. There are other people also that are in the state of being terminally ill. How about them? Faith and hope become more indispensable. Jesus Christ Is Our Strength and Consolation ■ CFC 184: On the other hand, sickness can bring us to a more mature Faith, helping us to discern what is really important in our life, against all the superficial, passing attractions that so often dominate us. As Christians, our Faith helps us to understand better the mystery of suffering and to bear pain more bravely. From Christ’s words, we know that sickness has meaning and value for our own salvation and for others. We also know how Christ loved the sick and often healed them of their infirmities. The Anointing of the Sick ■ It is possible when a sick person to be healed and yet still suffer from sickness. And it’s also possible for a healthy man or woman to be sick. ■ Human beings are embodied spirits. This means that there is unity in our body and soul. ■ CFC 1822: …this Sacrament of Anointing is healing in a special sense: it brings Christ’s compassionate loving healing to bear on those suffering serious sickness. The Anointing of the Sick ■ By healing, we do not necessarily mean a cure or the eradication of the disease or defect, which the medical profession pursues. While some diseases and evils may be incurable in the medical sense, there can be healing by holistic care that touches the body, soul and spirit of the sick person. Healing, then, means the process by which persons are helped to realize their full potential before God and their fellow men and women. The Good News is primarily about healing, not “cure” in medical sense.
