OLA

by less commission to OLA compared to Uber.

rate as low as 10% for PHVs and 5% for metered taxis.
• OLA launched first-of-its-kind policy research and social innovation unit –
Ola Mobility Institute.
• Till March 2018, Ola had raised funding of $3.9 Billion in 11 rounds from
about 20 investors.

Firm Strategy, Structure and Rivalry
• Often been labelled an Uber copycat, Ola has made several brave
bets, stayed nimble, and experimented. For instance, it has accepted
cash payments right since inception, while it took Uber nearly two
years to figure that out that cash remains king in the country. Since
October 2016, Ola has allowed users to book cabs through text
messages in case they can’t access the internet. This feature is key,
given India’s poor data connectivity. Ola’s app also supports nine
regional languages for cab and auto drivers—only 10% of Indians
speak English
Factor conditions
• After raising over $1 billion, hospitality firm Oyo is already in talks to
raise its next round of funding which will potentially take its valuation
to $12-12.5 billion
• While the company is in talks with new investors, it is learnt that
Softbank will put in a large chunk of the sum and will also buy out
stakes of many of the existing investors of the company.
• The round which is expected to be in the range of $1-1.5 billion is
likely to massively increase the shareholding of Softbank in the
company.
Demand Conditions
• In India, OYO still has massive headroom to grow. It still holds a mere
4.3% share of the overall domestic market of four million hotels and
guest house rooms.
• OYO is serving most of the hospitality segments as of now like local
travellers staying in hotels, international travellers proffering to stay in
private homes, students in need of PG while internships or studies,
etc.
