Chemical Engineering

A presentation by Group 6
What is Chemical
Engineering?
What is Chemical Engineering?

 Chemical engineers apply the

principles of chemistry, biology,
physics, and math to solve problems
that involve the use of fuel, drugs,
food, and many other products.

 A Chemical Engineer’s work deals

with nano-materials to large scale
industrial processes.
What Exactly Do They Do?

Chemical engineers work in almost every industry and

affect the production of almost every article manufactured
on an industrial scale. Some of these tasks include:

- Ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental

regulations
- Conducting research into improved manufacturing processes
- Designing and planning equipment layout
- Establishing safety procedures and processes regarding
dangerous chemicals
- Monitoring and optimizing the performance of production
processes
- Estimating production costs
Work Environment
• Offices or laboratories.
• Industrial plants, refineries, and other
locations, where they monitor or direct
operations or solve onsite problems.
• Nearly all chemical engineers work full
time.

But Did You Know?
Tony Tan Caktiong, the founder and chairman of
Jollibee was a Chemical Engineer!

He came from a working-class family who migrated from

China to the Philippines after the second world war and he
graduated with a chemical engineering degree at yours truly, the
University of Sto. Tomas.
