 Vadraj Cement (formerly known as ABG cement ltd) is a
non-govt company, incorporated on 26 feb, 1996.
 In the year 2007, ABG was purchased by Vadraj group of
cement.
 It’s a public unlisted company and is classified as
“company limited by shares”.
 Vadraj Cement Ltd has made a name for itself in the list
of top suppliers of cement manufactures in India.
 It is 6 MTPA capacity cement plant, clinker unit located at
kutch and grinding unit are installed at Surat.
 Ramavtar Sharma is the president of vadraj cement ltd.
 The product obtained by mixing together calcium
carbonate or lime (calcareous) and alumina (argillaceous)
and other silica and iron oxide bearing materials , burning
them at a clinkering temp and grinding the resulting
clinker.

 RAW MATERIALS OF CEMENT

i. Limestone
ii. Clay
iii. Aluminium and iron
iv. Gypsum
A starter is a device that controls the
use of electrical power to equipment,
usually a motor. A starter is needed in
order to limit the starting current.

Starters used in cement plant

 Direct Online starter
 GRR and LRS starter
 It connects the motor directly to
the power supply through a three
phase contactor.
 It consists of Contactor, Circuit
breaker, and Overload relay for
protection against any damage.

Main protection parts:

 Overcurrent protection
 Overload protection
 GRR stands for Grid Rotor Resistance starter.
 LRS stands for Liquid Resistance starter.
 LRS and GRR both are suitable for starting the HT motor.
 The resistance can be added to the rotor winding either
by LRS and GRR for increasing the starting torque of slip
ring HT motor.
 If speed control is not required the LRS is the best choice
as a starter for HT motor while the application that
requires speed control of the motor the GRR is suitable.
 The LRS is used with the HT motor for driving a rolling
mill.
 The GRR are used for fans and blowers applications.
 HT motor stands for High Tension motors having ratings for
high voltages of 3.3KV, 6.6KV, and llKV .
 HT motors are connected in star connection.
 In cement plant HT motors are used in raw mills and kilns.
 PLC Panels
 MCC Panels
 PCC Panels
 APFC Panels
 LT Panels
 PLC stands for Programmable
Logic Control.
 A Distributed Control
System(DCS) comprised of PLC
in its user mode and a
configuration software are
used in the industries
production and management
process.
 The PLC in particular, controls
ball milling, coal kiln and shaft
kiln.
 MCC stands for Motor
Control Centre.
 A MCC is an assembly of
one or more enclosed
sections having a common
power bus and principally
containing motor control
units.
 A MCC can include variable
frequency drives,
programmable controllers,
and metering.
 PCC stands for Power Control Centre.

 PCC Panels are the most essential part of

electrical system of an industry from where
the power of the industry controlled.
 APFC stands for Automatic
Power Factor Control
panel.
 APFC panel has
microcontroller based
programmable controller
which switches the
capacitor bank of suitable
capacity automatically in
multiple stages by directly
reading the reactive load
which works in the
principle of VAR sensing
tends to maintain the PF to
0.99 lag.
 LT Panel is an electrical distribution board that
receives power from generator or transformer and
distributes the same to various electronics devices
and distribution boards.

 LT panels are used in trenches and low voltages

cables.
 Cement plants are large consumers of thermal and electrical
energy.
 To optimize the overall performance of a cement
manufacturing unit requires a plant wide automation energy.

Energy can be optimized by using following energy saver:

 VSD ( variable speed drives)
 Multi-Drives
 Knowledge Manager(KM)
 A damper with a fixed
speed motor is the least
energy efficient solution
and the application of
VSD are the most energy
efficient.
 To be more precise, with
the use of VSD power
saving upto 70% can be
achieved.
 Multi drives which are
often referred to as an
“optimized drive solution
for the cooler area”.

Benefits of multi drives

system:
 Reduced cabling
 Reduced space
requirement
