Study of a new sub genera
of tapeworm from Clarias
batrachus (Linn.) from
District Chhatarpur,
Madhya Pradesh
Characteristic feature of the tapeworm
and identification
Scolex: MONOBOTHRIODES (BILOBULATA) N. SUB G.
 Cestode medium sized
and unsegmented (Order:
Caryophyllidea, Beneden
in Ollson, 1893 ).
 Scolex differentiated from
neck, elongated with
terminal apical disc
(Monobothrioides
Fuhrmann et Baer, 1925).
 Neck small.
Scolex: MONOBOTHRIODES (BILOBULATA) N. SUB G.
Middle region: MONOBOTHRIODES
(BILOBULATA) N. SUB G.

 Testes small numerous, oval to round, scattered

in medullary parenchyma reaches up to the level
of cirrus pouch while vitellaria broad limited in to
cortical region only (Family: Lytocestidae Hunter,
1927)
Middle region: MONOBOTHRIODES
(BILOBULATA) N. SUB G.
Posterior region: MONOBOTHRIODES
(BILOBULATA) N. SUB G.
 Cirrus pouch well
develop with internal
seminal vesicle
 Ovary bilobed,
posteriorly located.
 Receptaculum seminis
present.
 Uterus long , coiled,
reaches up to the post
ovarian region
Posterior region: MONOBOTHRIODES
(BILOBULATA) N. SUB G.
Eggs : MONOBOTHRIODES (BILOBULATA)
N.SUB G.

 Oval
 Operculate
Discussion
 The present form comes closer
MONOBOTHRIODES Fuhrmann et
Baer,1925 of the family LYTOCESIDAE
Hunter, 1927; order CARYOPHYLLIDEA
Beneden in Olsson,1893.
 Present form differs from Monobothrioides
Fuhrmann et Baer, 1925 in having adhesive
disc, internal seminal vesicle, bilobed
ovary, uterus which touches the cirrus
pouch and absence of introvert longitudinal
furrows in scolex.(Table:01)
Thus the proposed new form
Monobothrioides (Bilobulata) n. subg. have
major differences from
MONOBOTHRIODES Fuhrmann et
Baer,1925 of the family LYTOCESIDAE
Hunter, 1927; order CARYOPHYLLIDEA
Beneden in Olsson,1893
Hence genus MONOBOTHRIODES Furmann et
Baer, 1925 divided in to two sub genera viz

MONOBOTHRIODES (MONOBOTHRIODES)
n.subg.
and
MONOBOTHRIODES (BILOBULATA)
n. subg.

on the basis of above characters.

Key to the new sub genera of the genus Monobothrioides
Fuhrmann et Baer, 1925 of the family Lytocestidae Hunter, 1927

 1a. Ovary ‘H’ shaped …………………………………………………….

…… Monobothrioides (Monobothrioides) Fuhrmann et Baer, 1925.

 1b. Ovary ‘Bilobed’ ……………………………………………………..…

……………………………. Monobothrioides (Bilobulata) n. subg.
 In the light of above discussion the species
Monobothrioides (Bilobulata) bumberbeniensis
n. subg., n. sp. may be provisionally
accommodated in the proposed new sub genus.

 The new sub genus named after shape of ovary

where as species is named after famous temple
of Godess Bumberbeni .
